Love is Gone After Waking up From a Dream

Rebecca's expression changed slightly, but she quickly smiled and explained to Jason, "Jason, you must have misheard. I was just telling Karen that our wedding will be held in five days and inviting her to be my bridesmaid."

Jason was half-convinced, his gaze still fixed on Karen, clearly waiting for her response.

Karen curled her lips into a faint smile and played along with Rebecca’s words, "Rebecca is right, you just misheard. Anyway, congratulations to both of you in advance."

The moment she said that, the concern in Jason’s eyes instantly disappeared. He let out a cold scoff, pulled Rebecca into his arms and said, "Rebecca and I are in love. We’ll be happy even without your blessing."

Karen's heart was once again pierced with pain. She let out a bitter smile but said nothing more.

Four days later, she was discharged from the hospital, not because she had recovered, but because tomorrow was Rebecca and Jason’s wedding. Jason had demanded that she be Rebecca’s bridesmaid, forcing her to leave the hospital.

Her body was already severely weakened. Just walking a short distance left her breathless, her face so pale that it seemed she might faint at any moment. Yet, despite this, she insisted on walking to the hospital entrance on her own.

The moment she arrived at the entrance, her eyes immediately fell on Jason and Rebecca in the distance. She saw Jason carefully helping Rebecca into the car, treating her as if she were the most fragile glass that could shatter at the slightest touch.

Karen felt a sharp pang in her heart. She forced herself to look away, but she couldn't avoid hearing the voices of passing nurses as they whispered in discussion.

"Mr. Greene truly loves Miss Swanson. Just because she showed signs of her old illness recurring, he called in the best doctors to examine her and even assigned the entire hospital’s nursing staff to take care of her. He adores her so much! If I could meet such a man in my lifetime, I’d consider myself truly blessed."

"Of course! Miss Swanson mentioned that she had no appetite and Mr. Greene actually hired the country’s top chefs to prepare nutritious meals for her. I’m so envious! I heard their wedding is tomorrow and Mr. Greene booked the most luxurious hotel for the entire event. He wants to give Miss Swanson a grand, once-in-a-lifetime wedding. Even their wedding outfits were personally designed by him. Miss Swanson is incredibly lucky to have found such a man."

Karen’s steps faltered and her eyes instantly reddened.

For the past few days, she had been suffering alone in her hospital room, enduring the pain from countless needle marks on her hands and the frequent stabbing aches in her heart. Whenever she tried to call for a nurse to check on her, she was told there weren’t enough staff available.

Now she finally understood why.

All the nurses had been called away by Jason to care for Rebecca.

What hurt her even more was that Jason had given Rebecca the wedding dress that she and Jason had once designed together.

He was determined to shower all his love and favoritism on Rebecca.

Karen felt as if a heavy stone was crushing her heart, making it hard to breathe. Compared to Rebecca, who was cherished in Jason’s hands, she was nothing more than a ridiculous clown. Laughable and pathetic.

But it didn’t matter.

Once tomorrow was over, she would completely disappear from Jason’s world, leaving him in peace forever.

Karen took a taxi home and pulled out a metal box from under her bed.

When she opened it, she found it filled with memories of her and Jason, each one a small moment they had shared.

And there, lying among those memories, was the necklace Jason had once given her, a symbol of his promise to always forgive her, like a ‘get-out-of-jail-free card’.

Ever since she left Halley and Jason, she had never worn that necklace again. It had remained sealed in that metal box all this time.

Now that her time was running out, she wanted to take these things with her when she left.

So the next day, she took the metal box to a nearby cemetery.

Using all her savings, she purchased a sunlit burial plot. Then, she handed the metal box to the cemetery manager and asked him to bury it with her when the time came.

Just as she finished making the arrangements, her phone rang.

It was Jason.

"Karen, didn't I tell you to be Rebecca's bridesmaid? Where the hell did you go? I order you to be in my sight within ten minutes!"

Before Karen could respond, the call was abruptly cut off, leaving only the beeping tone in her ear.

With no other choice, she sighed and went home to freshen up. After a quick rinse, she changed into the bridesmaid dress that Jason had sent over, preparing to head to the wedding.

However, the sharp pain in her heart was becoming more and more unbearable, each wave stronger than the last. She wasn’t sure how much longer she could hold on.

She decided to take a special medication to keep her heart functioning until midnight. But just as she was about to swallow the pill, Jason suddenly barged in.

Startled, Karen instinctively tossed the pill into the trash can and looked at him in confusion.

Before she could ask why he was there, Jason grabbed her hand, his grip firm as he commanded, “The wedding is about to start and you’re still wasting time here. Do you not want to go? I’m telling you right now, that’s not an option. Even if you don’t want to, you will attend this wedding!

Jason gripped Karen's wrist tightly, causing sharp pain at the needle mark on her skin, even drawing blood. However, since her bridesmaid dress had long sleeves and was quite thick, he didn’t notice anything unusual. He simply dragged her out the door and forced her into the car.

The entire ride was silent. Neither Karen nor Jason spoke, but the car’s speed kept increasing.

Suddenly, Jason’s phone rang. As soon as he answered, Rebecca’s urgent voice came through:

"Jason! The wedding car picking me up got into an accident! Please, come save me!"

Jason's face changed instantly. "Rebecca, don’t be scared! I’ll come find you right now. Send me your location!"

After saying that, he turned to glance at Karen. But with all his focus on rescuing Rebecca, he failed to notice how pale Karen looked at that moment. In a cold voice, he ordered. "Rebecca is in trouble. I have to go save her. You take a cab to the wedding venue and handle things for me. Don’t let anyone start asking questions."

Without the emergency medication, Karen's artificial heart was starting to fail. Its beats grew weaker, her breathing became labored and her consciousness blurred. She didn’t even hear Jason’s voice.

Seeing her unresponsive, Jason mistakenly thought she had fallen asleep. His expression darkened as he got out of the car, yanked Karen out and tossed her onto the roadside.

"Karen, if anything happens to Rebecca because of you, I won’t let you off!"

After saying that, Jason no longer paid attention to Karen. He immediately turned the car around and sped off, leaving her with nothing but the sight of his cold, retreating figure.

Karen struggled to get up from the ground, pain coursing through her body. She tried to call out for help, but her voice was so faint that even she could barely hear it.

"Help me… please… help…"

She was on a suspension bridge, surrounded by cars rushing past. However, no one could hear her weak cries and no one stopped to help.

With the last of her strength, she held onto the bridge’s cables, trying to move forward. But in the next second, her heart stopped beating.

Her consciousness faded and her body lost all strength. She collapsed, tumbling over the edge of the bridge, plunging into the icy river below！
