Love Has Reached Its End, Never to See Each Other Again in This Lifetime
Chapter 4
[Exactly. Everyone knows Mr. Cadman and Evelyn have something going on. He'd never be into Caroline.]
I let out a bitter chuckle and then sent my resignation email from my phone.
That night, Julian went nuts. He locked me in our room, grabbing my shoulders as he demanded, "Don't you have anything to say for yourself?"
Staying silent, I yanked free and stuffed my last bit of stuff in my suitcase.
Then, I handed him the divorce papers I'd already prepared and said, "We should get divorced."
Julian's face turned cold. "What're you playing at? All this over one project?"
"I'm divorcing you so you can be with Evelyn. Isn't that what you want?" I said evenly.
Julian frowned, his voice rising, "There's nothing between us. You..."
"Where's your blue tie? The one with subtle pattern?" I cut him off, snapping my suitcase shut and looking up calmly.
Julian froze. Before he could respond, I pressed on, "When you two were making out in that hotel hallway, Evelyn tossed it. You know what? I saw everything.
Don't play dumb. Did you think you covered it up well?"
Julian turned pale, his grip tightening on my arm in panic. "I can explain! Caroline. Just put down the suitcase. Where can you even go?"
Just then, my phone rang. I managed to free my hand and answered it. A deep voice on the other end said, "Caroline, once you ditch that jerk, come on over. I'm waiting."
Julian looked like he'd been hit by a truck.
Seizing the moment, I pressed his hand down and forcefully signed his name on the divorce papers.
He stood there, totally out of it. I grabbed my suitcase and walked out without looking back.
A moment later, Julian came to his senses and tried to chase after me.
Bella, the cleaning lady, came over and handed him a crumpled piece of paper. "Mr. Cadman, you should see this."
Julian smoothed it out, frowning. Then his eyes went wide. It was a pregnancy test result.
