Chapter 4

It turned out that all along, it had been this obvious, but I had been blinded by what I thought was love.

"Honey, let's go home."

As soon as I opened the passenger door, I immediately noticed the man's tie on the passenger seat.

I silently closed the passenger door and walked to the backseat, sitting down.

Seeing my actions, Camila looked at me in confusion. But after noticing the tie on the passenger seat, she quickly grabbed it and tucked it away.

"Honey, don't misunderstand. It's just a tie that Mateo left in the car."

I didn’t say anything. I simply closed my eyes, remaining silent.

Seeing this, Camila sighed helplessly and turned to get into the car.

Along the way, she would occasionally glance at me through the rearview mirror, her face showing hesitation, as if she wanted to say something but couldn't find the right words.

When we arrived at the bottom of the building, Camila stopped the car but remained silently sitting inside.

We both stayed silent, not speaking to each other.

Finally, she broke the silence.

"Honey, today is our third wedding anniversary. I have a gift for you!"

As she spoke, Camila turned to look at me, a trace of shyness appearing on her face.

I opened my eyes and looked at her calmly.

"Adrian, you're going to be a father!"

I was shaken to the core by her words and I felt a slight sense of clarity.

Seeing that I just stared at her in silence, Camila suddenly smiled, her tone soft as she spoke. "Honey, are you so happy that you don't know what to say? That's great, we're going to be parents!"

I looked at the woman in front of me, her face full of joy and my mind only grew more confused.

"Let's get out of the car first, we'll go home."

I silently pushed open the car door and followed Camila back home.

But as soon as I opened the door, someone suddenly rushed toward us.

Before I could react, that person had already tightly embraced Camila.

"Baby, you're back? My head hurts so much, can you rub it for me?"

Mateo said while leaning into Camila's embrace.

Seeing this, Camila instinctively turned to look at me, her expression slightly awkward as she spoke, "Honey, don't overthink it. He drank too much on his own and I couldn't let him go home alone. I just let him stay the night here."

"Mateo drank too much, he’s just treating me like an older sister. Honey, you drank a lot too tonight. You should go get some rest."

Saying that, Camila gently pushed me into the bedroom and thoughtfully closed the door behind me.

I lay on the bed, rubbing my temples, feeling exhausted. In a daze, I eventually fell asleep.

When I woke up in the middle of the night, I felt extremely thirsty.

I opened the bedroom door, intending to pour myself a glass of water. However, as I passed by the neighboring bedroom, I clearly heard voices inside.

"Mateo, don't worry, I've already told Adrian. I told him that this is his child."

Camila's words froze me in place and I tried to move my feet, but found myself unable to. My mind raced, but everything felt numb.

"No one but you and I know this matter. Since my sister can't have children, I won't let your bloodline end! I'll raise our child with Adrian until they're grown."

The weight of her words pressed down on me, suffocating me as I stood there, unable to escape.

I looked out the window at the fireworks that suddenly bloomed in the night sky. In that moment, the last shred of conflict inside me vanished, just like the fleeting fireworks. I forced myself to walk back to the room, sitting by the window as a single tear slid down my cheek.

I picked up my phone from the side, typing a message to the familiar lawyer.

[Mr. Torres, I have decided to get a divorce. Please prepare the divorce agreement for me.]
