Love Has Collapsed
Chapter 3
Half an hour later, I saw Yvonne's post.
"I was so worried when my dog didn't eat. Luckily, I have my knight who always spoils his princess!"
In the photo, she was holding a listless poodle, nestling against a man's broad chest.
Even though the man hugging her didn't show his face, I could tell it was Henry from the wedding ring on the big hand.
It wrenched at my heart that his concern for me was not as great as that for Yvonne's dog.
A month ago, I fainted from food poisoning at home. Just before I lost consciousness, I called him and asked him to come and take me to the hospital.
But he would rather walk Yvonne's dog with her. He even accused me of being pampered and told me that I could just stick a finger into my throat to induce vomiting.
Later, it was the security guards who noticed something was wrong, broke in, and sent me to the hospital, saving my life.
While I was lost in thought, Henry's assistant, Philip, called me urgently.
"Mrs. Lawrence, a client has made an appointment to discuss a project at our company, but I can't get through to Mr. Lawrence. Can you help contact him? It's quite an urgent matter."
That was what Henry was like. Once he was with Yvonne, he would not reply to any calls or messages.
But I didn't expect him to enjoy staying with Yvonne so much that he forgot about his work.
"Philip, don't worry. I'll try calling him. If he doesn't answer, I'll go find him."
After hanging up the phone, I directly called Henry without any expectation that he would answer.
Unexpectedly, the phone was picked up after it rang twice, but I only heard Yvonne's sweet voice come from the other end of the line.
"Regina, Hen is helping the veterinarian give the dog an injection. Just tell me if you have anything to say."
Yvonne's affectionate way of addressing Henry, her affected tone, and her superior manner instantly ignited my anger.
"You want me to tell you? Who do you think you are?"
After saying that, I hung up on her. Though I had a good intention to remind Henry of his work, I was disgusted by a coquette.
I didn't have to care about his clients or his business, which had nothing to do with me!
It was not until an hour later that Henry called me furiously.
"Regina, what the hell is wrong with you? Do you know that the deal is worth 100 million dollars? 100 million dollars! And it was ruined by you fool! What's the point of me feeding you? You are even worse than a dog!"
I calmly waited for him to finish his accusations against me.
Then, I snapped with sarcasm, "Yes, I have always known that I'm not as good as Yvonne's dog in your heart. You bark like a dog now. It's you who forgot the appointment with your client and did not answer Philip's call. You only have yourself to blame, but why are you barking at me?"
"You--"
Henry was not stupid and was well aware that it was his own problem. He was just treating me as a punching bag, but I had already had enough of it.
Suddenly, I heard Yvonne chimed in, affecting regret in her coquettish voice.
"Hen, don't be mad. It's all my fault. If you hadn't accompanied me to take the dog to the vet's, you wouldn't have lost this deal. Boohoo, I'm so useless. Will you dislike me for this?"
"It's not your fault, Yvie. I promised you that I would not answer any calls or reply to any messages while I'm with you. It's just 100 million dollars. I can earn it again in the future. Please don't cry, my dear."
His doting and considerate tone was in stark contrast to when he had just reproached me.
He didn't even wait until he hung up the phone and just comforted Yvonne so affectionately in my presence without any shame.
"So, are you two done with your disgusting display of affection? Can I hang up now?"
With that, I hung up without waiting for Henry to growl at me again.
In the blink of an eye, I saw Yvonne's new post.
"For me, he gave up 100 million dollars. He really did. I'm moved to tears."
I sneered and commented.
"How could it be only 100 million dollars? What he spent on you must be worth a trillion dollars."
Just after I commented on Yvonne's post, Henry's call came. I powered off my phone without hesitation.
"You damn scumbag, you protect your lover like a vicious dog guarding shit. I don't give a damn about you anymore!" I cursed inwardly.
