Chapter 3

After sleeping for two days, I decided to try working as a waitress in a hotel in town.

The work was simple and wouldn't attract any attention.

The hotel owner interviewed me and, seeing that I was pretty, hired me on the spot.

I had never worked a long-term job before, so this was my first experience. I didn't expect to face discrimination just for working.

"Clare, go to the front. The manager is looking for you," said a coworker, rolling her eyes at me.

When I approached, the manager was panicking.

"You've come at the right time," he said. "There's a difficult customer here. No one wants to serve her. You should go. But don't offend this lady from Capaville. She's an important customer."

I had no choice but to open the door and ask if she needed anything.

The girl opposite me was stunned for a long time.

"Why do you look familiar?"

"You must be mistaken. How could you possibly know someone from a small place like ours? Miss, what can I do for you?"

"Is your last name Ramos?" She stood up and walked around me, inspecting me in my uniform.

"I think you are. Your name is Jocelyn Ramos. Are you from the Turner family in Capaville? I once saw you at a dinner party with Mr. Turner."

"You must have made a mistake. I'm local and have never been to Capaville." I was shocked that someone recognized me and had to pretend not to know her.

"No way. Jocelyn was raised by the Turners. Someone from your small town couldn't have such an aura."

"Miss, the manager is calling me. If you don't have any instructions, I'll leave."

She waved her hand and let me go without making things difficult.

Outside the door, I confronted the coworker who had lied to me.

"What do you mean? We're colleagues. Why lie to me?"

"You look like a rich kid pretending to experience society. You act like you're one of us but you're trying to steal our jobs. How much does your boss pay you?"

I didn't bother responding and went straight to my manager to resign.

Although I felt it was unlikely, I didn't dare take the risk. If Yorick found me, all my efforts would be wasted.
