Chapter 1

After five years of marriage, my husband, Daniel Carter, still loved me deeply.

He felt sorry for how hard pregnancy was on me and specially hired the top OB-GYN, Sophia Miller, to take care of me one-on-one.

To accompany me through the most important moment in a woman’s life, he even booked the most luxurious LDR suite.

But on the day I went into labor, the baby was too large, and I had a difficult delivery. After giving birth, I suddenly began to hemorrhage… yet Daniel and Sophia were nowhere to be found.

From the bathroom came the sound of them flirting:

“Sophia, thank goodness we implanted our baby into Lily’s body back then. Otherwise, the one lying there in pain would be you.”

“Her expression just now was so hideous—if I looked at her for even a second longer, I’d have nightmares. You, on the other hand, are always so beautiful.”

“Hehe, then you’re not allowed to go out and be with that old hag tonight. I want you to remember my beauty.”

They spent the whole night tangled up in each other in there.

Meanwhile, blood kept pouring from me, pooling and congealing in the air-conditioned chill of eighteen degrees, my body slowly slipping into hypothermia…

When I opened my eyes again, I was back on the day Daniel had taken me to tour the delivery suite and introduced Sophia as my personal physician.

This time, I pulled out the divorce papers right away:

“I don’t want the man or the child. You can both get out.”

The warm, lively atmosphere evaporated in an instant at my words.

Daniel, embarrassed in front of everyone, showed a flicker of anger in his eyes.

“Lily, what’s wrong with you? I’ve been thinking only of your health, and you suddenly, inexplicably bring up divorce?”

If it weren’t for the memories from my previous life, I might have believed he truly cared for me.

But the stench of blood, the buzzing of swarms of flies, and the shameless sounds of lust between my husband and his mistress from my past life still wrapped tightly around me, making me feel sick.

“That’s right. I want a divorce, and I’ll be terminating the pregnancy. Sign it.”

When my mother-in-law, Margaret Carter—who was already upset over the cost of the LDR suite—heard that I planned to abort, she exploded.

“Lily Carter, don’t you dare push your luck! My son went out of his way to get you a doctor and a delivery room, and you’re just being ridiculous.”

“You’ve been married into our family for so long without laying a single egg, just eating and doing nothing while my son treats you like royalty. Now that we’ve finally succeeded with IVF, you try aborting my precious grandson? Just you try!”

I answered her with no expression:

“Don’t forget who’s responsible for damaging my uterus so that I can only conceive through IVF.”

“As for everything else—those were Daniel’s obligations. After all, the start-up capital and resources all came from my brother. It’s generous enough that we never asked for repayment or a share of the profits.”

My family’s business was overseas, while Daniel came from an ordinary background. He’d earned an exchange-student spot through hard work and came to study at my university.

After we fell in love, I ignored my brother Michael’s objections and resolutely returned to the country with Daniel to start a business.

My brother, worried I’d suffer with Daniel, had no choice but to support us.

To help Daniel grow the company, I trudged through the dead of winter to a client’s home, gifts in hand. The client deliberately made things difficult and refused to see me, so I waited outside until I collapsed in the snow.

Moved by my sincerity, the client eventually agreed to the deal, which propelled the company to the next level—but my uterus suffered permanent damage from the cold.

Back then, Daniel was distressed and swore he’d never let me work so hard again. He swore he would never betray me. But he broke that promise.

Hearing my words, Daniel’s face darkened.

He was a man who valued his pride and hated being exposed in public.

But before he could speak, someone else rushed to defend him:

“Lily, that’s a bit harsh. Since you married Daniel, of course your family should help him out. Do married couples really need to keep score like that? That’s so petty.”
