Look Forward, Don't Turn Back
Chapter 3
I wanted to refuse, but when I looked at the sunny weather outside, I agreed.
Asher replied quickly. "I'm in the parking lot of your company."
I was stunned by Asher's enthusiasm. Without thinking much, I packed up and came downstairs to look for his car.
But I searched the parking lot four or five times and still didn't see him.
Just as I was about to send him a message asking where he was, he called.
"Where are you? I've been waiting here for so long. Why haven't you come down yet?"
I looked around. "I've been circling the parking lot and haven't seen you."
Asher's tone suddenly became impatient. "Can't you look around for any landmarks?"
That was what Asher was like. He got impatient after just a few words with me.
As soon as the words slipped out, he seemed to realize that he had a bad attitude and said, "Which gate? I'll come for you."
Hearing this, I suddenly realized something.
Half a year ago, our company moved to a new address. This building only had one exit.
"Asher, did you go to the old address?"
"What? Have you changed jobs?" Asher suddenly reacted. "Oh, I remember now. I'm coming over. Wait for me there."
"It will take over an hour to come over. I'll just go home." After saying that, I hung up the phone.
When I arrived home, Asher was waiting for me downstairs.
"How about we dine out tonight?"
It seemed like he wanted to make it up to me. Given his unusual behavior, I could guess that he must have made a reservation at a restaurant.
But wasn't it a bit too late?
I looked at him indifferently. "I'm not feeling well. I don't want to go out."
In the past, I would always come home early and prepare dinner, eagerly waiting for Asher to come home.
But Asher came back home drunk at midnight every time.
Whenever I complained a little, he would get furious and say, "You're always complaining. I work so hard every day just for our family."
"If you're not coming back for dinner, can't you let me know in advance?"
"The client made a last-minute appointment with me. What could I do?"
"Why are you making such a big deal out of this? It's so annoying."
Then he slammed shut the study door and wouldn't say a word to me for the whole night.
So I stopped talking to him afterward. I would just prepare the food and keep it warm, waiting for him to come back.
Seeing my indifferent attitude, Asher didn't say anything else.
He followed behind me and explained, "I was too busy recently and I forgot that you told me about the company relocation. It wasn't intentional."
Without a word, I walked forward calmly.
Asher seemed surprised by my reaction and asked me.
"Aren't you angry?" I stopped in my tracks and looked at him calmly.
"Do you really want to argue with me right now?"
Asher's expression turned gloomy and he remained silent, but at that moment, his phone suddenly rang.
He answered the phone and Gianna's voice rang out.
"Mr. Williams, there was a sudden power outage at my house. I'm really scared at home. Can you come over and check on me?"
Asher looked at me with probing eyes, but I ignored him, opened the door, and walked into the house.
After a while, Asher also walked in.
He stammered and explained to me, "Gianna is a young girl who just graduated. It's really not easy for her to work in a strange city."
"Alright, I don't want to hear anymore. I'm not feeling well, so I'll go take a bath."
With that, I walked into the bathroom and wanted to take a hot bath to relieve my fatigue.
But just as I took off my clothes, Asher walked in. "Honey, we haven't taken a bath together for a long time."
I grabbed a towel and wrapped myself up, looking at him coldly.
"Go out. I want to be alone for a while."
