Chapter 3

Diego Rivas walked through the compound with a heavy heart after what Lucia Torres had said to him. Her accusations and promises echoed in his mind, making him uneasy. He had to find Mariana and fix what he had broken.

A voice broke into his thoughts. His close friend Xavier Navarro walked up to him with a serious look on his face.

Xavier said, "Diego, we need to talk."

"What is it?" Diego asked, his nerves on edge.

Xavier said, "Mariana's gone." "She's been hiding, and I think Raquel Cordero knows where she is."

Diego's heart skipped a beat. "Raquel? Do you think she's keeping something from you?

Xavier thought for a moment. "I don't know, but she's acting weird." It seems like she's hiding something.

Diego's stomach was churning. Raquel had always been faithful. Why would she keep him from knowing where Mariana was? "Where is she?" Diego asked.

"I don't know for sure," Xavier said, "but I'll do my best to find out." We need to do something right away.

Diego's anger grew. He had to find Mariana, and he couldn't let Raquel's actions get in the way. "Watch out for Raquel." "Let me know if you find anything," he said before leaving, determined to find Mariana.

Diego and Xavier searched the compound for hours but couldn't find anything. It was like Mariana had disappeared. Diego's attention was drawn to an old heirloom chest that was hidden away in the back corner of the mansion. He hadn't seen the chest in years; it was a part of his family's history.

Diego was curious, so he went up to the chest and used the old key his dad had given him. His heart raced as the lock creaked open. There were old letters, faded papers, and a thick book with a leather cover inside. He opened it and saw that the writing on the pages was in a language he didn't know. One part of the book that caught his eye told the story of the Rivas bloodline, which was full of power, betrayal, and a curse that came with the pack's founding.

Diego's breathing sped up as he read. The book talked about a secret power that had to do with the pack's future and the twins Mariana was carrying. Their kids were the only ones who could break a curse or seal the pack's fate. The pack's future depended on the power, which would come at a cost.

Diego slammed the book shut, and his hands shook. The twins, who were Mariana's kids, were at the center of it all. There was a dark secret that connected his past, his future, and Mariana's.

Mariana sat alone in her dark room, feeling the weight of the last few days on her. She wanted to move on, but she couldn't forget about Diego. She was angry, betrayed, and longing all at the same time. When someone knocked on the door, she stopped crying and thought about what she was doing.

Raquel Cordero stood in the doorway with a serious look on her face. "We need to talk, Mariana."

Mariana thought for a moment. She trusted Raquel, but it hurt that Raquel hadn't told Diego where she was.

Raquel spoke in a low voice. "I know what you're thinking. But this isn't just between you and Diego. There is more going on here. "More than you know."

Mariana frowned, and her heart raced. "What do you mean?"

Raquel stopped for a moment before answering in a low voice. "There are things about Diego's past that he doesn't even know. It's linked to you. To the two of them. It's not safe. He doesn't know what he's getting into."

Mariana's breath stopped. "How does this affect my kids?"

Raquel's voice was barely a whisper now. "There is a curse and a prophecy. The key is your kids. You have to keep them safe and yourself safe from Diego and everything else that is coming.

Mariana's head was spinning. She had a feeling something was wrong, but this? This was too much. Raquel turned and left before she could ask any more questions, leaving her with more questions than answers.

Diego felt a sense of dread as he walked back to the compound with the heirloom book in his hand. He had to find Mariana and tell her everything, but he was afraid it might be too late.

As he got closer to the compound, he saw Mariana standing at the edge of the woods. She was getting ready to go. But then, someone came out of the shadows and stood in her way. Diego's heart stopped.

A dark smile on Valentina Ruiz's lips, who was a rival Alpha, stood in her way. There was something much worse than competition in her eyes.

"Valentina, what are you doing here?" Diego yelled, and his voice was full of warning.

Valentina's smile got bigger. "Don't worry about Diego, Mariana." You are in the way of the future.

Diego's heart sank when he realized that Valentina wasn't just an Alpha looking for power; she knew something. Something that could bring everything down.

Mariana looked up at Valentina with a look of fear and confusion in her eyes. "What do you mean?"

"You'll find out soon enough," Valentina said, her voice full of dark promise. "The prophecy is almost over. And you, " she said, pointing at Mariana, "are the key."

Diego stepped forward, fists clenched. "Valentina, leave her alone!"

Valentina just laughed, though, in a low, mocking voice. "Diego, the clock is ticking." You all haven't seen what's coming.

Diego felt like his world was falling apart as she turned to leave. He was in danger of losing everything he thought he knew. Mariana, the twins, the curse, nothing was what it seemed.

Diego and Mariana were on the edge of a future that none of them could change, and the darkness around them seemed closer than ever.
