I Left My Groom At The Altar And Married My Childhood Rival
Chapter 3
The wedding turned into a complete disaster, and the Simpsons sent a steady stream of gifts as an apology. Princeton and Heaven Simpson had always been fond of Raelynn Ferguson—her grace and courtesy won them over—so they strong-armed a reluctant Johnny Simpson into calling to apologize. But Raelynn didn’t answer a single one of his calls.
Johnny’s heart was no longer with her, and his actions gave Raelynn an early glimpse of the truth. She decided to leave the mess behind and accepted an offer from a mentor to help prepare for a major fashion show.
When he couldn’t reach her, Johnny tracked her down to the venue and demanded her forgiveness like he was entitled to it.
“Raelynn, I know what happened at the wedding was a lapse in judgment on my part, but you have to understand—Margaret practically grew up with me. I can’t just turn my back on her.”
“That ‘Radiant Heart’ diamond I promised you at our wedding? I gave it to her. She’s been going through a rough time, and as her brother and sister-in-law, we should support her. You’re okay with that, right?”
Raelynn, busy taking a model’s measurements, let out a soft laugh.
“You gave it away without even asking me. So why are you asking for my opinion now?”
Johnny’s brow furrowed hard. “Raelynn, there’s only so long you can hold a grudge. I’ve already apologized. What more do you want from me?”
He kept going without missing a beat. “My parents never trusted Margaret’s motives. They wanted her out of the house. Now that she’s the reason the wedding fell apart, they’re even more furious. They won’t even let her through the door...”
His tone softened. “They really like you, Raelynn. Just go talk to them. Tell them you were the one who wanted me to help Margaret that day. Ask them to stop giving her such a hard time.”
Raelynn kept her eyes on the measuring tape. “I’m not going. Whoever made the mess can clean it up.”
Johnny hesitated, his mouth twisting into a disbelieving laugh. “Fine, Raelynn. I’d like to see who else puts up with you and that stubborn streak.”
With that, he stormed off. Raelynn sighed and went back to work.
...
On the day of the fashion show, the venue was packed with guests. Watching models strut down the runway in designs she’d helped create, Raelynn felt relief wash over her, lifting the cloud that had been hanging over her for days.
“I heard there’s a new designer, Raelynn Ferguson. Her style is really something else.”
“That turquoise dress from earlier? That was one of hers—talk about a daring design.”
Raelynn listened to the guests’ chatter with interest—until a figure darted onto the stage.
“Raelynn Ferguson, I know you’re here.”
Margaret Armstrong stood in the center of the runway, blocking the models. Her voice shook with emotion.
“My brother left you on your wedding day because I was in a car accident. He never meant to humiliate you.”
“You said you’d never let us off the hook. My parents ended up in the hospital from the stress. My brother’s reputation is in shambles. And me? I’m just his sister, but I got branded a ‘homewrecker.’ You tore my family apart.”
“It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have called my brother after the accident. Can you forgive me? Can you just let my family have some peace?”
By the end, she was sobbing.
The revelation hit Raelynn like a bucket of ice water. The crowd erupted in whispers.
“What? Raelynn got left at the altar? This is huge!”
“The groom didn’t do it on purpose, and she—unbelievable. She hasn’t even married into the family yet, and she’s already caused this much chaos.”
“That poor girl onstage. Imagine having a sister-in-law that vindictive. Who knows what kind of trouble lies ahead for her?”
