Inheriting Millions, Yet Forced to Marry a Simpleton
Chapter 2
"How old are you now? Why are you still as cowardly as when you were little?" Mom asked indifferently.
I rubbed the scars on my arms, my heart aching as if being pricked by needles.
When I was a child, my parents would lock me in the basement and whip me with sticks whenever I broke something or did something that upset them.
They put me in solitary confinement under the pretext of letting me reflect on myself.
But my parents would never bear to say a single harsh word to Will, even if he made a severe mistake.
"You should go get the marriage license with Dan tomorrow morning!"
Hearing this, I couldn't stand it anymore. I sprang to my feet and overturned the table.
"You rebellious girl, what do you want to do?" My mother looked at the mess on the floor in disbelief and frowned, ready to slap me.
I grabbed her hand and said, "I'm suffocating here. I'll never come back again!"
Will stepped forward to stop me and asked, "Where can you go if you leave home?"
I sneered, "Home? This has never been my home!"
"Sandra Charter, stop putting on an act! I'm pregnant with your Charter family's grandson, so your parents are willing to marry you to my brother even without any gifts, not to mention we gave you 100,000 dollars!"
"Don't be so hypothetical. That sum of money is for you and Will to raise your kid, isn't it? Does it ever have anything to do with me?"
"Now that you say the money has nothing to do with you, then get out of my place!"
Amy raged, holding her abdomen and trembling with anger.
My parents and Will hurriedly strode forward to support her.
Will was afraid that I would fight with Amy, so he quickly handed me a key and said, "Your stuff is in the basement. There is a bed there. You can stay there if you want..."
I went down to the basement and saw all my stuff piled up in a mess in a corner.
The clothes were moldy, and the books were drenched with water.
The bed Will mentioned was made of iron bars welded together without even a coat of paint and had already rusted in the damp basement.
It couldn't be a place for anyone to live at all!
I went upstairs, knitting my brows together tightly, but before I could knock on the door, Amy's impatient voice came from inside.
"Look at her! We shouldn't have left her even a basement when we bought this house!"
"You bought this house?"
I sensed something wrong, so I pushed open the door and questioned my parents, "Didn't you say this house was allocated to you by the government after the demolition of our old house in our hometown? Where did you get the money to buy it?"
"You sent some money home every month after you graduated from college, didn't you? It added up to more than 500,000 dollars, enough for a down payment on the house."
My legs went weak, almost causing me to fall to the ground.
My parents had always told me that they had saved this money for me so that I would have enough money for my future marriage.
Unexpectedly, they had secretly bought a 140-square-meter house without telling me.
"The warranty deed! Show me the warranty deed!"
"What? Are you intending to snatch the house from your brother Will?" My mother questioned as she stood in front of Will protectively.
My father said with a stern look, "You'll get married sooner or later. There is no room for you in this house anyway. How about you just follow Dan to your future in-laws' place today so that you can accustom yourself to life there as soon as possible?"
"I paid for this house, yet there is no room for me?"
"Does a daughter need a room?" Dad replied as if it was a matter of course.
I looked coldly at the family before me, seeing their true colors for the first time.
"From now on, I'm no longer your daughter! As for the 500,000 dollars you spent on the house, I'll contact a lawyer to retrieve it.
"By the way," I continued, staring coldly at Amy and her family, "don't think about marrying your stupid son to me!"
"You've already accepted the engagement gift. What's wrong with you?" Amy's mother immediately got unhappy and questioned my parents.
Amy covered her big belly and said threateningly, "This is your Charter family's grandson. If you don't get the marriage license with my brother tomorrow, I'll go abort the baby at the hospital!"
My parents panicked the instant they heard this.
"Mom, now that you've accepted the money, why don't you marry him? If you are reluctant, you can let Will marry him instead!
"Anyway, from now on, I'll have nothing to do with this family!"
