Chapter 1

Everyone said I was Adrian Langston’s whole world. On the surface, he was cold and restrained but behind closed doors, he couldn’t keep his hands off me. He touched me seven times a night and even got a vasectomy, just so I wouldn’t have to take birth control.

Until the day I was trapped in a fire at home.

Adrian immediately abandoned a multimillion-dollar business deal to rush back, yet as I screamed for help, he picked up the safe and ran out without looking back.

Even as the scorching metal burned his skin, he didn’t flinch. He was only focused on saving the keepsakes of his adopted daughter, Sabrina Monroe, her baby teeth, the skirt stained during her first period and her first pair of high heels…

He growled like a madman.

“Sabrina, ever since you left, my world has been colorless.”

“I’ve stayed faithful to your memory for three years. At least leave me something to remember you by.”

So, it turned out that I was just a convenient shield for his forbidden love.

I closed my eyes in despair and let the flames consume me.

When I opened them again, I had returned to the day of our engagement.

——

“Angelica, why hasn’t Adrian arrived yet? Is he stuck in traffic?”

My mother’s anxious voice echoed in my ears.

I turned around and saw my parents, alive and well. That’s when I finally realized, I’d been reborn.

Tears instantly streamed down my face.

In my past life, my parents’ company suffered a financial crisis.

Adrian, a member of one of the wealthiest families in the capital, offered to get engaged to me. He promised to help resolve our debts.

So, my parents mortgaged the company to him, but we never received any of the promised funds.

Debt collectors drove my father to the rooftop, where he jumped to his death.

My mother fainted at the sight, was rushed to the hospital and died shortly after due to unaffordable medical bills.

When I was sent to a nightclub by loan sharks to pay off the debt, Adrian showed up. He embraced me apologetically.

“Sorry, I got delayed by an avalanche overseas. From now on, I won’t let you get hurt ever again.”

Adrian gave one command and the vicious debt collectors vanished overnight.

I treated him like a savior and gave him my all.

But after my rebirth, I recalled seeing Sabrina’s vacation photos.

I finally realized that during the half month he went “missing,” he had been skiing with her. The so-called “avalanche” was just an excuse.

And I had believed his casual lies, which cost my parents their lives.

Now that I was reborn, I would never let the same tragedy happen again.

Seeing the tears on my face, my mother thought I was upset about Adrian’s tardiness and gently wiped them away.

My father scowled and said harshly, “If Adrian embarrasses my daughter today, I’ll make him pay for it, even if it costs me everything.”

I froze.

In my previous life, Adrian arrived at the engagement party right on time. Why was he late today?

Suddenly, screams erupted outside.

The engagement party was held on a private lawn. A hearse broke through the roadblock and sped in recklessly. Guests fled in panic.

After the chaos, the car finally came to a screeching halt.

Adrian stepped out, holding Sabrina’s hand. His gaze was tender until he saw me. It turned icy in an instant.

“Angelica, who gave you permission to text Sabrina?”

Adrian held up his phone, the screen displaying the message I had sent, an innocent invitation asking Sabrina to be my bridesmaid.

His voice was cold as ice.

“If I hadn’t seen it in time, she would’ve already booked a funeral home.”

And in that moment, everything fell into place. Adrian had been reborn too.

After Sabrina lost both of her parents in a tragic accident, she was taken in by Mr. Henry Langston, a longtime friend of her father’s.

In my previous life, I had truly believed their bond was nothing more than that of a kind uncle and a grieving niece. That was why I’d invited her to stand beside me on my wedding day.
