If Loving You for Many Years Were a Secret
Chapter 2
I was unused to wearing high heels.
Thus, I stumbled and almost fell several times.
But every time, Finley could support me quickly.
I apologized shyly yet gratefully.
He nodded slightly, telling me not to worry about it.
That was my first time entering the circle.
Finley was very well educated.
His every gesture and movement exuded nobility.
He resolved my embarrassment calmly and tactfully.
At that moment, I was truly grateful to him for taking me away from the trouble I had once been in.
After a while, Finley was called away.
Before leaving, he kindly asked me if it was okay for me to be alone.
I nodded.
Considering I had already caused him enough trouble, I didn't want to appear incapable of caring for myself.
After Finley left, several gorgeously dressed girls surrounded me at the banquet.
"It's weird! Finley hasn't brought anyone on such an occasion for a long time."
"She looks like Yara."
After the girl finished speaking, everyone seemed to realize something suddenly.
"You're right! They look very similar!"
"No way! Did Finley find a replacement?"
"Why do I feel like I've seen her somewhere before? Is she a bit famous?"
"She's pretty but looks a bit poor."
Everyone commented on me without reservation, as if they were reviewing a product.
Obviously, I was not one of them.
Even though I was wearing gorgeous clothes, my temperament was hard to hide.
Thus, they didn't care about my feelings at all.
I looked around to find Finley in panic.
He was the only one I knew here after all.
Coincidentally, Finley looked back from the crowd.
In the next second, he met my gaze.
In just a moment, he apologized to the people around him, then walked towards me.
He helped me out instantly.
After the banquet, he sent me back to school in person.
On the way, he was a little puzzled.
"Why haven't you moved into the house I gave you?"
I smiled at him.
"It's nice to live in a dormitory. Also, I can have fun here.
"Mr. Zane, can you please... drive faster? I'm afraid I won't back to the dorm before it's locked."
Finley nodded and didn't force me.
After that day, his assistant would send me gifts now and then.
The most common items were clothes and jewelry from big brands.
It was useless for a poor student like me.
But every time I refused, the assistant smiled awkwardly.
He told me, "Ms. Allen, it's my job, and I hope you can understand."
In the end, there was no choice but to accept it.
Unluckily, my dormitory was so small that I had no place to hide them.
A student who was working part-time to support herself suddenly had so many expensive items.
It was indeed hard to explain clearly.
Soon, posts with pictures about my being kept appeared frequently on the campus forum.
My roommates, who were originally close to me, gradually distanced themselves from me.
I didn't even have a chance to defend myself.
It was because these were all true.
Returning to the dormitory after class, I once again saw the "Go to Hell Bitch" sign posted on the door.
I took out the envelope that Assistant Finley had given me.
Then I moved into the place according to the address above.
Finley would come over to have a meal with me sometimes.
Yet, he would leave very quickly.
I was sensible and didn't ask or try to keep him.
On the day of my graduation, he actually came to pick me up personally.
As we sat side by side in the back seat, he took out a bracelet all of a sudden.
It was studded with pink diamonds.
He sent me a graduation gift.
Even though I had already received quite a few gifts from Finley, the gift still shocked me.
It was unreal like a dream, leading me to an unknown world.
This was my first time, and it really hurt.
I clenched my fists and bit my lips.
It was hard not to make a sound.
During the process, he was gentle and patient, guiding me to slowly relax.
After it was done, I lay in Finley's arms, breathing softly.
His phone suddenly vibrated.
He frowned slightly and reached out to grab it.
We were so close that I could hear the sound on the phone clearly.
"I won't stop you from dating other women.
"Yet, you must take tomorrow's blind date seriously."
Finley was perfunctory while replying and then hung up in annoyance.
I was beside him, feeling so ashamed that I couldn't face him.
Before going to bed, I plucked up the courage to ask him.
"Mr. Zane, if you have someone you really like in the future, please tell me, okay?
"I will keep a low profile and leave quietly without causing you any trouble."
After all, I wasn't even his mistress.
I was just a replacement for someone else.
It made my eyes water.
He lowered his eyes to look at me.
He felt sorry for me at this time.
After a while, he nodded and planted a kiss on my brow.
It was gentle, different from the previous ones.
That was the first time I had feelings for Finley.
I wanted to go to work, but Finley refused.
Feeling bored at home, I decided to go out for a walk.
Upon arriving at the mall, I saw a brand that Finley often wore.
I walked in bravely.
That day, I dressed in ordinary clothes, including a white shirt, flared jeans, and platform shoes.
By comparison, every piece of clothing in this store would cost at least five figures.
The salesgirls were all shrewd, so no one wanted to serve me.
I happened to enjoy walking around by myself.
My attention was attracted to a halterneck maxi dress.
I reached out to touch it when another person took it off the hanger before me.
As the woman opposite met my gaze, she was stunned, and then disgust flashed in her eyes.
"You bitch, how dare you compete with me for something?"
As I didn't react, a slap landed heavily on my face.
My mind went blank in an instant.
A tingling sensation spread across my face.
I looked up in surprise.
Another woman beside the person who beat me spoke up.
"She is Mr. Zane's real girlfriend. You have to endure it even if she hits you."
Her slap was hard, and I hadn't eaten for the whole day.
Thus, my vision gradually went dark, and my body swayed and fell.
Before I fainted, Finley grabbed my waist.
He angrily shouted, "Demi Gerta, you go too far!"
