Chapter 1

My name was Emma Harrison. On the day I was burned to death, my husband Ned Miles was having an affair with my stepsister Angela Harrison.

I drank bitter medicine and received treatment at home every day, and I studied military books and topographic maps with great effort.

Meanwhile, Ned was in the military camp flirting with Angela and using the strategies I came up with to rise to the position of General.

In the end, he even allowed Angela to set fire and burn me completely.

My soul floated in their mansion for a whole year, watching how they used the money I earned to live a life of wealth and luxury.

Fortunately, fate pitied me and let me live again.

When I opened my eyes, I looked at Ned, who was going to war, and decisively changed the person I invested in.

I spent two years carefully nurturing my body, and the doctor told me that I could finally conceive and have a child.

On the day Ned returned triumphantly, I dressed up and welcomed him at the front door, wanting him to know the good news as soon as possible.

I knew he had been longing for a child, and now we finally got what we wanted.

But he held Angela in his arms with tenderness on his face.

Her cheeks were flushed, and her belly slightly bulged.

I instantly understood everything.

"Emma, I'm sorry, but Angela is carrying my child."

"In that case, I will divorce you. Go ahead. You two have my blessing."

I didn't want to see this bitch couple anymore, so I turned around and went back to the courtyard.

Ned caught up with me and said, "Emma, you can't bear children. If you leave me, no one will marry you!"

I slapped him and said, "That's none of your concern.

"You betrayed me and had an affair with my sister. Who are you to judge me?"

I told my maid Jade Kelley to bring me a pen and a piece of paper and then go pack up my things.

He blocked the door and stopped me.

"Emma, be good, and I promise you will still be my wife. But Angela is pregnant. I can't let her down."

"So, you want both of us to serve you?"

I wrote the divorce paper decisively and threw it directly in Ned's face.

"Even the current Emperor only has one wife."

At this time, Ned's servant came to call him.

Great timing.

"Mr. Miles, Mrs. Miles is having stomach pain. She wants to see you."

His expression changed at once. He said nothing more to me and ran quickly to his precious son.

Might as well. I didn't want to waste my time talking to him.

I signaled the servant to pick up the divorce paper on the ground and hand it to Ned and then turned around to continue packing with Jade.

It's not a big deal, Emma. Your good days are yet to come.

I organized the property I had earned with my dowry over the years, waiting for the carriage that Jade had found to pick me up.

The money was enough for me to dribble through life and even the next few lives.

Suddenly, I smelled something burning.

The fire had already blocked the door, and I couldn't open it.

In a few breaths of mine, the fire had approached the bedroom, and the windows had been sealed.

I was hit by a beam and couldn't move.

I was burned alive into a withered corpse.

After death, I didn't have a rebirth. I guessed it was because I died with unfinished business, and my soul lingered in the Miles Mansion for a year.

I saw my burnt-black body being carried out, my mother cried her eyes out and was sent back to the mansion by my father because he thought she had disgraced him. In the end, she died of depression. Her body was wrapped by a straw mat, and she was buried in a random grave.

The whole family gathered around Angela and looked at her bulging belly, chatting and laughing. They even rewarded the servant who set the fire.

Ned shed a few tears for me, but as soon as he heard Angela say that the weather was too cold and the child was uncomfortable, he immediately forgot about me and hurriedly went to the mountains to hunt foxes and make a cloak for her.

Now that the world was peaceful, Ned, the General, no longer needed to lead troops into battle, so he no longer needed to discuss military strategies with me.

He probably didn't remember me anymore. He spent every day accompanying his son and eating the soup Angela made.

I sat on the rooftop, watching them live a luxurious life with the money I earned.

I envied them so much that I wanted to tear them apart.

But I couldn't get close to them at all. I could only hover over the mansion.

Suddenly, there were three thunders as if to laugh at my years of painstaking efforts to actually make the lives of Ned and Angela better.

Fortunately, fate pitied me.

On the day when my soul scattered, I unexpectedly was reborn. I went back to the day before Ned set out two years ago.

I opened my eyes and looked at Ned, who was directing his subordinates to move things.

I asked the same question.

"We have been married for a year, but I still haven't conceived. Will you blame me, Ned?"

"Why would I?" He strode toward me and held my hand.

"Emma, don't worry about this. Take good care of yourself at home. When I come back, we will definitely have children."

I snuggled in his arms just like in my previous life.

But I looked at the bronze mirror opposite us.

In my previous life, I was immersed in the joy of his tenderness toward me.

I never noticed his evasive gaze.

So, at this point, you've already had an affair with Angela?

After he went to war, I stayed in the mansion and thought about my plans for the future.

These past few days, every time I closed my eyes, all I saw was the fire from my previous life as well as Ned's happy face while he held the child.

I wanted to escape. I wanted those who had harmed me to receive their retribution.

"Mrs. Miles, Mrs. Harrison is here to see you."

I opened my eyes and calmed down for a moment, then ordered someone to bring my stepmother Madge Harrison in.

"Emma, I heard that you're not feeling well, so I came to see you."

She smiled kindly as if she really cared about me.

In my previous life, I actually thought that Madge really cared about me, the neglected illegitimate daughter, and I was overjoyed.

But now I knew I was wrong. Her daughter pushed me into the icy river in the middle of winter.

So, why would treat me any better?

I asked Jade to pour her a cup of fine tea.

"Madge, if you really want to see me get better, let me see my mother."

My mother was locked in the backyard by my father, claiming that she had a mental illness. No one was allowed to see her.

In my previous life, I didn't get to see my mother until I died.

In this life, I must take my mother away from this cage.

Madge smiled awkwardly, "Your mother's mental illness has relapsed recently. When she recovers, she'll be allowed to come here to see you."

After speaking, we looked at each other in silence.

She pondered for a moment and gave me a signal with her eyes.

I understood and dismissed the servants to see what she wanted to say.

Madge approached me and asked, "I heard that Ned has won several battles and made a name for himself in front of the Grand Marshal. Is that true?"
