Chapter 2

His condescending tone made me realize that my seven years of love was a joke.

I figured that he had long forgotten why I was so determined to have his child.

When Andy's family fell into decline and was haunted by debt collectors every day, I tried my best to pay his debts as soon as possible. So, I worked three jobs during the day and lived with him in the cheapest basement in town at night. For three months in a row, I didn't eat meat. I let him eat all the meat. But since I didn't want him to be guilty, I told him that I was full.

Misfortunes never came singly. He was diagnosed with leukemia later. Disheartened, he let the debt collectors beat him. I was the one who protected him, and they didn't let us off until my lower part was bleeding.

Our first baby died.

My blood type was a match for his, and I saved his life.

The doctor told us that just in case, I should keep the umbilical cord blood of the child. Maybe it'd be useful at a critical moment.

Before the accident, I made up my mind to hide the fact that I had cancer from him. I wanted to leave him with a child, who would give him hope as well.

"Take your dirty hands off!"

Andy smiled instead of getting angry.

"Serena, you're actually disgusted by me?"

In Andy's eyes, I saw undisguised disgust.

It turned out that he still remembered those things.

He had been cornered and attacked countless times, and I was always the one who called the police and came to save him at critical moments.

Those debt collectors couldn't collect the debt, so they vented their anger on me by getting handsy.

Although there was no substantial harm, it made me extremely humiliated.

At that time, I had to take several cold showers before Andy would hold me.

He didn't care why I used cold water. When I said I was used to using cold water, he bought it and then hugged me while I was shivering. Then he had sex with me.

At that time, I found redemption in his passion, thinking that he wasn't disgusted by me.

During those painful days, I was the only one willing to be by his side. We were as poor as beggars.

He knew very well that I loved him enough to give up my life.

Now he threatened me with what I cared about the most, but there was one thing he didn't know. I, who had miraculously survived, would no longer put my life in his hands.

"Serena, don't challenge my patience, or I may immediately cancel the engagement!"

"Whatever."

Just as I finished speaking, Maggie came out, her eyes tearful.

"Andy said he has found a match for me. So, it's you, Serena! Sure enough, you're my family. I'll be grateful to you forever!"

Maggie sniffed and spread her arms to hug me.

I stepped back and pushed her hands away.

Maggie took the opportunity to lean backward and almost fell down, but Andy quickly caught her in his arms.

"Serena! How could you be so cruel? She is your sister! Apologize to her!"

"My mom only gave birth to me. I don't have a sister!"

I stubbornly lifted my chin and refused to give in.

This was the first time I didn't listen to him.

"Andy, forget it. Serena is young and has been spoiled since childhood. Don't be annoyed by her temper. As her older sister, I won't get upset with her over a trivial matter. Donating bone marrow has risks. It's normal that she's scared. Maybe I can wait for the next successful match."

Maggie leaned against Andy's arms, looking like she was dying.

Andy immediately covered Maggie's hand back with pity.

"What's to be afraid of? When she donated bone marrow to me, she didn't even blink. She's experienced."

After saying that, when he looked at me, he frowned impatiently again.

"Serena, I've already arranged this. You don't want to be an indifferent murderer, do you?"

The veins on his tightly clenched hands were bulging.

I knew he had completely lost his patience.

In the past, as long as he clenched his fists, regardless of who was right or wrong, I would immediately compromise and coax him.

But now, I didn't want to grovel anymore.

Since my bone marrow matched successfully with Maggie's, then Andy's would work, too.

He could sacrifice himself to save his loved one.

When I ignored his anger and left, he roared at me.

"Serena! If you dare to leave, we're done for good!"

He counted down, but I didn't look back.

He snapped his fingers, and a group of people took me away.
