Chapter 3

He did not reply to my messages nor pick up my calls.

I was starting to get worried. I kept limping around the living room, not knowing where to find him.

That was when I realized something.

We have never really talked to each other besides having fun in bed.

It was past one in the morning when I heard the humming of a car's engine coming from outside. I quickly opened the door.

Since my leg was hurt, I had never run this fast.

It was a relief to see Charles get out of the car in one piece. However, I started to feel angry after that.

However, before he walked up the steps, I suddenly felt I had no right to be angry.

We did not have a normal relationship.

Charles hung his jacket on the hanger and walked into the house. "Why are you waiting for me? You should go to sleep first. I wouldn't be home that fast coming back from North City."

He saw the table filled with food and narrowed his eyes.

"Did you forget that I would be on a business trip?"

His words took me by surprise. "... Did you mention it to me?"

Charles tsk-ed softly and frowned.

After thinking hard about it, I seemed to have a vague impression.

He did tell me he would be going on a business trip, but I was too busy thinking about how much money I could get by selling the watch he gave me.

I did not bother to remember what he said.

It was not easy to cajole Charles. No matter what I said, he only had one answer for me.

"Face your back toward me and I'll forgive you."

He was unusually stubborn when he brought this issue up again.

There was no way I was giving in when I had been the one at the top for so long.

"I haven't forgiven you for not picking up my call."

"There was no time to check my phone when I had to conserve energy by napping just so I could come home to a hot night in bed with you."

He dipped his finger into the sauce and stuck his tongue out to lick it. "Mmm… Tastes good."

Charles put that finger into his mouth after that.

He glanced at me from the side and kept staring.

It was such a seductive look. I was powerless against it.

I was rough when I hoisted him onto the dinner table.

He refused to let me near as he lifted his knee against my abdomen.

"No. I'm still mad."

There was nothing I could do. I was a little frustrated. "I'll do anything except have my back facing you."

"Why is it that I can do it, but you can't?"

Charles frowned. He was mad at me. "Don't forget that I'm your boss!"

I calculated how much was in my bank account. It was enough to last me a long time. I picked up my coat and turned to leave.

"Well, I quit. Goodbye."

"Holden, you…"

Before he finished his sentence, I heard a cry of pain behind me.

I turned to look. He was in a daze as he stared at his right hand. His palm was covered in blood.

He had accidentally grabbed a knife while getting off the table.

My mind went blank. I had no idea how I ran over to him. I tried to press down on his wound with a table napkin.

Charles turned away. He refused to let me touch him.

He got angry when I tried to pull him over. He hit me with his wounded hand.

Blood kept gushing out of his wound.

I cursed in a panic. "Fine! It's my fault, all right?!"

Charles was finally placated. He lifted his chin arrogantly while sitting leisurely in a chair. He did not even look at me.

Giving in once meant there would always be a second time.

Charles had been on the losing end in bed, and he wanted to win out of bed.

He wanted me to deliver his meal to his office.

Charles also insisted that I accompany him to a friend's gathering.

I could not understand it.

What could a cripple like me be worth bragging about?

This did not make him look good at all.

I even felt embarrassed for him.

The club was crowded. It was filled with rich heirs. It was not long before he dragged me out with a cold look on his face.

"Wait. Let me save this person's contact first…"

Charles snatched my phone right after that and smashed it hard to the ground.

I stared at the broken screen of my phone. I looked up at him. "Are you crazy?"

Charles opened the door of his car while I bent over to pick it up, and he kicked me into the car. It bumped my head hard.

It made me dizzy, and before I could recover, he grabbed me by the collar.

"How could you give your number to anyone asking for it? Do you think I'm dead?"

Oh, this was why he lost his temper. For some reason, it kind of made me happy.

His eyes were red as he stared at me. "How could you still smile about this?"

I grabbed him by the waist and made him sit on my lap. "I don't like it that I have no one to ask about you when you go missing again."

Charles looked flustered.

He smelled good. He smelled like sandalwood. It was a peaceful feeling.

I buried my head in his neck and inhaled his scent deeply. "Have you any idea how worried I was when I couldn't contact you that night?"

Charles was exceptionally obedient. He must be embarrassed.

I held him like I was cuddling a cat. I caressed his waist gently.

It made me feel a little hot and bothered. "You're heating me up. Be good and sit where you are."

Charles said nothing. He leaned close to me and started kissing me on the neck. He moved down to kiss every part of my body.

I could feel the tip of his tongue touching every part of my body. His kisses moved downward quickly but made a short stop on my chest before continuing his way down.

The light in the car park was dim. I groaned with satisfaction as he looked particularly focused.

I could not help but place my hands on his soft, dark hair.

As I enjoyed the moment, someone suddenly knocked on the car window. Whoever was outside sounded extremely furious.

"Charles Grant!"

A middle-aged man in a suit was standing outside the car. His eyes were wide with fury.

Charles immediately looked to the side. "Damn it!"

He wiped his mouth and got up to climb over to the driver's seat. He started the engine and sped out of the car park.

I was caught unprepared. I zipped my pants up unhappily. "Who was that?"

Charles clenched his teeth. "My dad!"

I closed my eyes. I blocked them with my arms. I was dead silent.

This was the end of everything.
