I Rejected My Fated Alpha

8.8 / 10.0
Serafina was fated to Cael, the merciless Alpha of House Morwyn, yet he showered her with scorn while she held his crumbling pack together—balancing treasuries, mending alliances, enduring his parade of mistresses. Her love withered to ash, driving her to a forbidden severance rite that shattered her very soul. Cael's world collapsed into desperate regret, but his pleas fell hollow. Then Elias, a neighboring lord, saw her brilliance and offered a choice without chains. Fate bound them—and Serafina alone would decide who survived the cut.

I Rejected My Fated Alpha Chapter 1

The heavy oak doors of the manor groaned open at two in the morning.

I stood at the top of the grand staircase, waiting. Cold air rushed through the foyer, carrying the sharp scent of winter cedar, cheap jasmine perfume, and the overwhelming musk of my mate.

Cael stumbled into the foyer, his arm wrapped firmly around the waist of a petite woman.

She wore his tailored black overcoat. The hem dragged against the polished floorboards, completely swallowing her frame.

She looked up, caught my gaze, and leaned deeper into Cael’s chest.

"Oh," she purred, her voice dripping with mock innocence. "Is that your wife, Alpha Cael?"

Cael didn't bother looking up at me. He kept his hand anchored to her hip, his knuckles brushing her bare thigh through the slit of her emerald dress.

"Ignore her," Cael muttered.

The woman giggled, adjusting the collar of his coat around her neck. "Which room should I take tonight, Lady Serafina? The master suite, or the guest wing down the hall?"

My fingers curled into the mahogany banister until the wood creaked beneath my nails.

Three years of whispers. Three years of cleaning up his public scandals, attending council meetings alone, and smiling for the pack elders while my bed stayed ice cold.

Not tonight.

I walked down the steps. Each step felt sharp, grounding me against the floor.

"Get out," I said.

The woman blinked, surprised by the tone. She took half a step back, hiding behind Cael. "Excuse me?"

"I said get out of my house," I repeated, stopping three paces away. "Take off his coat, walk out that front door, and never show your face in the Lord's manor again."

Cael shoved the woman behind his broad frame. His gray eyes flared with sudden fury as he towered over me, releasing an oppressive wave of Alpha authority.

"That's enough, Serafina," he growled.

Several servants stood frozen near the dining hall entrance, their heads lowered, pretending not to listen.

"No, it isn't enough," I said, meeting his glare without flinching. "You bring whores to pack borders, you bring them to city taverns, but you do not bring them under this roof."

A harsh laugh burst from Cael's throat.

"My roof," he corrected sharply. "Everything here belongs to me. Including your title."

"I have run this estate while you wasted your time playing warlord," I snapped, pointing a trembling finger at the door. "Send her away, Cael. Right now."

Cael took a step forward, closing the space between us.

His scent slammed into me—rich pine and storm clouds. Instantly, the mate mark beneath my collarbone ignited like hot coals. A violent throb pulsed through my veins, screaming at me to yield, to bare my neck, to beg my Alpha for a single touch.

My knees trembled. My inner wolf whined in agony, desperate for his reassurance.

I locked my joints and held my ground.

Cael saw the strain on my face. A cruel smirk tugged at the corner of his lips. He raised his voice, ensuring every servant in the hall heard every word.

"Don't forget your place, Serafina. If the elders hadn't forced me with that ridiculous fated mate nonsense, I never would have looked twice at an Omega like you."

The foyer went deathly silent.

Even the woman behind him stopped smirking, sensing the sudden, dangerous shift in the air.

A sharp, humorless chuckle broke from my chest. It wasn't a sob. It was a dry, hollow laugh that tasted like dust.

"An Omega like me?" I whispered, my voice cutting through the quiet. "When the northern clans threatened war two winters ago, who drafted the peace treaties? When the grain supplies rotted and your council wanted to burn the south farms, who balanced the ledgers and kept your people from starving?"

Cael's jaw tightened. "That was your job."

"I broke myself to keep you on that throne!" My voice cracked like thunder against the marble walls. "I spent five years carrying your responsibilities so you could run wild! What was all of that to you, Cael? What was I to you?"

Cael looked down at me, his eyes dead and unreadable.

"An obligation," he said coldly. "A duty you were born to fulfill. Nothing more."

He turned his back on me and reached for the girl's hand.

"Take the east suite across from my private study," Cael told her, his tone casual, as if I were a ghost standing in his foyer. "I'll be up shortly."

"Thank you, Alpha," she whispered, darting up the stairs with a triumphant glance over her shoulder.

My chest burned. The mate bond raged, tearing through my senses, punishing me for defying him while begging me to grovel at his feet. My hands shook violently.

I looked at Cael. He was adjusting the cuff of his shirt, totally indifferent to the destruction he had just caused.

Something inside me snapped. The fragile thread of hope I had guarded for five years broke clean in half.

I reached down to my left hand.

The silver crest ring was heavy, carved with the howling wolf of House Morwyn. It was the symbol of the Lord’s Lady. The symbol of my absolute devotion to a man who saw me as an inconvenience.

I pulled it off my finger.

The metal hit the mahogany side table with a sharp, heavy clatter.

Cael froze. His eyes snapped down to the ring, then back up to my face.

"What are you doing?" he asked, his voice dropping into a dangerous warning.

"Since you hate this fated match so much," I said, my voice steady for the first time in years, "I'll grant your wish."

"Serafina, put the ring back on."

"No."

"Don't test me," he stepped closer, his Alpha aura pressing down hard, trying to force my head down. "You are my mate. You don't have the authority to throw away our bond."

"Watch me."

I turned away from him and faced the head housekeeper standing near the corridor archway.

"Martha," I called out.

The elderly Beta woman hurried over, her eyes wide with alarm. "Yes, Lady Serafina?"

"Have two guards pack every trunk in the master suite," I commanded. "Everything that belongs to me goes to the old west tower tonight. I will not sleep under the same ceiling as your Alpha."

"Serafina!" Cael barked, grabbing my wrist.

His grip was bruising. The contact sent an agonizing jolt of electricity straight to my mating mark, a white-hot spark of desire and pain that made my vision blur.

I yanked my arm back with every ounce of strength I had, ripping free from his fingers.

He stared at his empty hand in shock. I had never pulled away from his touch. Never once in five years.

"Do not touch me again," I said, stepping backward out of his reach.

"You're being hysterical," Cael sneered, though a tiny flicker of unease flashed across his brow. "Go sleep in the tower if you want to throw a tantrum. You'll crawl back to my bed before the sun rises. Your biology won't let you stay away."

"We'll see about that."

I didn't wait for his reply. I swept past him, marching straight toward the library corridors.

My heart pounded against my ribs like a trapped bird. The mate bond screamed in protest, pulling against my chest like an iron chain anchored to Cael's chest, threatening to drop me to the floor with every step I took away from him.

I bit down on the inside of my cheek until copper coated my tongue, using physical pain to drown out the bond's pull.

At the end of the hall, my personal guard, Gary, waited in the shadows. He bowed his head respectfully as I approached.

"My Lady," Gary murmured, his voice grim. "I heard the commotion."

"Gary," I said, keeping my voice low so the echoes wouldn't carry back to the foyer. "I need you to send a private raven to the border monastery tonight."

Gary frowned slightly. "The archives? What are you looking for, Lady Serafina?"

I pressed a hand against the burning mark on my collarbone, feeling the heat radiate through the fabric of my dress.

"The ancient texts," I answered, my eyes locking onto his with absolute certainty. "Find me the ritual to reject a fated mate."
