Chapter 1

My husband told me that his little sister, Jasmin's grandmother was gravely ill and her last wish was to see her marriage.

He agreed to Jasmin's request and returned to discuss divorce with me.

I smiled bitterly and heard the System pop-up notification, "Mission failed, you will die within three days!"

But as a final act, it offered me a wish.

"Then let me die at his hands."

Later, my corpse was found in the trunk of their wedding car.

Since then, he, a famous doctor, had become blood-sick.

Gabriel was renowned as a famous doctor, having studied under Nathan Lopez since childhood, who treated him like a son.

Now, he was about to become part of the Lopez family.

"I misjudged you. I didn't expect you to be so cold-hearted," I said.

"Jasmin's grandmother is dying. I've promised her to divorce you. Come to the court early tomorrow. Don't delay," he said.

I stared at the beautifully decorated birthday scene, feeling something bitter and salty in my mouth.

It was just like our relationship, envied by others.

Everyone called him a model husband, but who understood the ups and downs?

"Hanah, are you listening?" he urged, "I've already told you that Jasmin's Grandma's situation is urgent. Don't drag this out."

Seeing that I hadn't spoken for a long time, his irritation was evident through the phone.

It was ironic. People said he had a gentle voice and never lost his temper even with the most difficult patients.

Just as I was about to respond, Jasmin's voice came through. "Gabriel, my grandmother wants to talk to you. Hurry."

He hung up without hesitation.

I was stunned.

Shouldn't Gabriel still be my husband?

I looked around at the birthday party I had organized, and the friends who were specially invited to surprise him.

They looked at each other, feeling awkward and not knowing what to do.

"Mrs. Reid, don't overthink it. Dr. Reid probably just went to check on a patient," his best friend said awkwardly.

Yes, he went to see a patient, and the patient was his future mother-in-law.

I resisted the urge to burst and called Gabriel, wanting to remind him that his friends were waiting and he should finish his birthday celebration first.

But he didn't answer.

I called repeatedly while his friends tried to engage me.

Finally, he picked up.

"Hanah, I'll say it the last time. Can you please stop bothering me?" Gabriel growled.

His friends, browsing on their phones, suddenly stood up awkwardly, greeted me, and left.

Gabriel continued, "Whether you agree or not, I'm divorcing you. Come to the Court tomorrow morning. That's final."

He hung up again.

"Host, the mission has failed. Cherish your remaining three days!" the System taunted, ready to claim my soul.
