I Just Want To Be With You In This Life
Chapter 2
Unfortunately, things didn't go as I wished.
I walked into the hospital lobby.
The sound of ambulance sirens came closer and closer.
My colleagues from the emergency department passed by me carrying a stretcher.
As they passed by, I saw the face of the man on the stretcher. His face was full of pockmarks and there was a big black mole on his chin.
It was Jack.
In an instant, I felt my limbs stiffen and my blood freeze.
He was rescued.
After simple first aid, he was transferred to our department.
When I was making rounds, he was sitting on the bed, deliberately exposing his disabled right hand.
He held his fingers and asked me in a trembling voice, "Will the treatment of my illness cost a lot of money?"
Faced with this familiar and disgusting scene, I clenched the pen in my hand tightly.
I tried hard to suppress the urge to turn around and run away.
I gave the instructions and had an examination for him.
In my previous life, I knew he was in financial distress. After learning about Jack's unfortunate life experience, I felt pity and sympathy for the people at the bottom of society.
I replaced most of the examinations with questioning and palpation, but I didn't expect that those normal touches during the examinations would arouse his obscene desires.
"You'd better get surgery as soon as possible. Pay fifty thousand dollars deposit for hospitalization first!"
Jack held the list and murmured in disbelief, "Would a doctor like Dr. Moore, who has such high medical ethics, also charge randomly?"
"These are all necessary examination procedures. If you can't accept it, you can transfer to another hospital."
I wished he would leave.
Unexpectedly, Jack reached out and grabbed my uniform, saying, "Dr. Moore, I believe in you, please save me."
I pulled back my uniform with force and looked at the eye-catching black handprint on my pure white clothes, which seemed like some kind of bad hint.
I suppressed my panic and hatred and fled back to the office.
With trembling hands, I drank a glass of ice-cold water and forced myself to calm down.
After my rebirth, I dared not to drink any beverages or coffee.
I no longer dared to wear my favorite long skirts, high heels, or even put on makeup.
And the culprit who caused all this was threatening me with medical ethics.
I would not waste my energy on a bastard.
When I went to the nurses' station to give medical orders, several young nurses in our department gathered and chatted.
"Well, the new patient in bed 16 is so pitiful."
"The one who was transferred to the emergency room this morning? Jack?"
"Yeah, I asked him to contact his family to stay with him, but he said he has no relatives. Oh! He's disabled, sick, and has no family."
"I heard that his father died when he was very young, and then his mother abandoned him and remarried. He grew up with his blind grandmother."
"What's wrong with his hand?"
"It seems that when he was working part-time some years ago, his hand got caught in a machine during the night shift and he almost had to have it amputated."
"It's so pathetic."
"He is now taking care of the construction materials at the construction site to earn a meager salary, and it is estimated that he cannot afford the hospital bills..."
I sneered and thought Jack was really capable.
In less than half a day, everyone knew about his pathetic life experience.
Just as I was about to step forward, the head nurse came over, waved her hand, and scolded the girls.
"If you have the time to sympathize with others, you'd better do your job well first.
"Besides, you can never tell one's personality through his appearance! Sometimes kindness can hurt yourself!"
I didn't know if it was my illusion, but when I said this, the head nurse looked at me meaningfully.
I was listening to the young nurses' discussion with a smile when my boyfriend Johnny Collins came over.
"What are you talking about? Why are you so happy?"
Looking at Johnny's still handsome face and thinking back to his ruthlessness to me in my previous life, I had a mixed feeling.
I knew I couldn't blame him. In that situation, it was natural for him to break up with me.
But I couldn't help but mind.
Johnny and I were college classmates. We had been in love for more than eight years and were about to get married.
In my heart, he was the person closest to me.
But he resolutely abandoned me when I was in trouble.
I forced a smile and said, "Nothing."
"Let's have dinner tonight, okay?"
"I have to be on duty today."
"I remember that you didn't have a shift today, right?"
"Oh, I adjusted it."
I did this to avoid that day.
The source of all disasters.
I tried my best to avoid Jack in the hospital and reduce contact with him.
But I still consciously avoided that day.
The day when Jack drugged me in my previous life.
This time I deliberately changed my shift early and went home directly instead of staying in the hospital.
The high-intensity work, coupled with the tension caused by Jack in recent days, had made me physically and mentally exhausted.
I took a nap on the sofa.
In a daze, I seemed to hear the sound of the combination lock on the door being unlocked.
I thought it was Johnny, but I was really tired, so I just lay there without moving.
I felt the footsteps approaching. Johnny seemed to have stared at me for a while, and his breathing gradually became heavier.
I felt something was wrong, and then I felt someone on top of me and a hand was unbuttoning my shirt!
I opened my eyes suddenly and screamed in fear when I saw a face so close to me!
Jack!
Seeing that I was awake, Jack seemed even more excited. He held a bottle of drink in his hand and tried to force me to drink!
I was terrified, and I recalled the nightmare from my previous life again, but I didn't even have much strength to push him away!
