Chapter 3

Tiffany could smell the fresh scent of coffee waft through the bustling law firm as her friend and coworker, Crystal Miller made her way down the hallway. Her curly blonde hair bounced with each step, framing a face that was both friendly and calculating. She was the self-proclaimed queen of office assistants, always in control of her domain, even if no one had officially given her that title.

Tiffany was a slightly jealous of Crystal who had a keen eye for detail and fashion, from the length of her crisp pencil skirts to the alignment of the pens on her immaculate desk. She knew every inch of the firm and could navigate it blindfolded if need be. This innate sense of authority was something she took pride in, and she wielded it like a weapon when necessary.

"Morning, Tiffany!" Crystal greeted her friend with a warm smile as she approached Tiffany's cubicle, which was adorned with various art prints and doodles, a stark contrast to the sterile environment of the firm. "You look like you could use a refill."

Tiffany glanced up from her computer screen, her expressive brown eyes brimming with gratitude. "Thanks, Crystal. I don't know how I'd survive this place without you," she admitted, handing over her empty coffee mug.

"Hey, what are friends for?" Crystal replied, her voice light and lilting. She filled Tiffany's mug with steaming coffee before settling into the chair beside her. "Besides, I've got your back, always have, always will."

As Tiffany sipped her coffee, she couldn't help but feel a pang of relief at Crystal's words. The chaos of the firm often left her feeling overwhelmed, and having someone in her corner meant more than she could express. From managing her caseload to navigating office politics, Crystal's support was invaluable.

"Alright, let's dive in," Crystal said, pulling out her notepad and pen. "What do we have on the agenda today?"

Tiffany sighed, running a hand through her long, wavy brown hair. "Well, I've got a meeting with Mr. Thompson at ten about the Davis case, and then I need to finish reviewing those deposition transcripts."

"Okay, I'll make sure you're prepped and ready for that meeting," Crystal assured her, scribbling notes in her distinctive, loopy handwriting. "And don't worry about the transcripts, I'll help you power through them during lunch."

"Seriously, you're a lifesaver," Tiffany said, her voice filled with sincerity. She knew that without Crystal's help, she'd likely be drowning in work, and their friendship was one of the few bright spots in the otherwise dreary environment of the firm.

"Like I said, it's what friends are for," Crystal reiterated with a wink, before rising from her seat and striding away with the same confident gait that had carried her into Tiffany's world.

Tiffany sat at her desk, staring blankly at the stack of papers in front of her. It was almost lunch time and she wasn't sure how she was going to push through the day. The events of the morning had left her feeling emotionally drained, it had been a couple of weeks, and she still couldn't shake off the weight of her breakup with Andre. She knew that Crystal was the one person who could understand her complicated feelings and was looking forward to discussing things over lunch.

Almost as if summoned by Tiffany's thoughts, Crystal came sauntering back to her desk to retrieve her for lunch.

"Hey, are you okay?" Crystal asked softly, pulling up a chair next to Tiffany's desk. Her concern was evident in her eyes.

"I don't know, Crystal," Tiffany admitted, letting out a heavy sigh. "I'm still dealing with the reality that Andre and I are no longer together."

"Tiffany, I'm so sorry you're dealing with this," Crystal said, reaching over to give her friend's hand a comforting squeeze. "You know I'm here for you, right?"

"Thanks, Crystal," Tiffany replied, her brown eyes glistening with unshed tears. "It's just... it's been so hard to trust anyone after everything that happened with him."

"Listen," Crystal began, her voice gentle but persuasive. "I know this might sound crazy, but I have a friend who I think you'd really hit it off with. His name is David, and he's a businessman, charming, successful, and not to mention very easy on the eyes."

"Crystal, I don't know," Tiffany hesitated, biting her lip. "I'm not sure I'm ready to date again, especially so soon after my breakup."

"Tiffany, I wouldn't suggest this if I didn't think it would be good for you," Crystal insisted, her blue eyes filled with sincerity. "You deserve some happiness and excitement in your life. And who knows? Maybe this guy could be the one to help you find it."

Tiffany mulled over Crystal's words, torn between her reluctance to dive back into the dating world and her desire to trust her friend's judgment. Finally, she let out a deep breath and nodded. "Alright, Crystal, if you think it's a good idea, I'll give it a shot."

"Trust me, Tiffany," Crystal said with a smile, her eyes shining with excitement. "You won't regret this."
