Chapter 2

Danielle immediately put her hand on my forehead and wanted to take me to the hospital with concern.

I refused and just said that I might have caught a cold last night and I just needed to rest.

She pulled me back to the bedroom and laid down.

“Sleep a little longer. If you feel really uncomfortable, call me and we'll go to the hospital.

“As for the car maintenance, you can cancel the appointment online later.”

I observed her reactions and expressions the whole time, but still could not see anything wrong.

The more this happens, the more confused I become.

After Danielle left, I went to the underground garage.

Seeing the car parked inside, I could not help but breathe a sigh of relief.

This car was a gift from Danielle to me last month on our tenth wedding anniversary.

But I did not go out often, so I rarely drive it.

I did not expect that the rare time I drove out would end up in such a bad way for our whole family.

In this life, no matter who wanted to harm me, as long as I did not touch the car, nothing would happen.

Thinking this, I took the car keys and went home.

After a quick meal, I lay on the bed and thought about my past life.

Before I could sort out my thoughts, the phone rang suddenly.

Looking at the phone number, my heart could not help but tremble.

After calming myself down, I pressed the answer button.

"Am I talking with Mr. Geraldo Stark right now?" the police officer asked as soon as I received the call.

After gulping a saliva, I answered, "Yes, it is me."

"Sir, your car killed three people and you are suspected of a hit-and-run. Please surrender immediately and cooperate with the investigation."

The policeman’s harsh words on the phone sent a chill down my spine.

“How... how is it possible?

“Comrade police, are you mistaken? My car is parked in the basement and I didn't drive out today.”

When the police heard what I said, they thought I was trying to shirk responsibility and their tone became even colder.

“The vehicle at the scene of the accident is registered in your name. You have the responsibility and obligation to cooperate with the investigation after the accident. As for whether it was you who was driving the car, the police at the scene will investigate.”

After hanging up the phone, I ran to the garage, but the scene I saw made my heart beat faster.

The place where the car should have been parked was empty at this time.

I clearly had both car keys in my hands, so why was the car missing?

Taking a deep breath, I took out my phone and immediately called my cousin, Enoch Stark.

“When did Danielle arrive at the company today and when did she leave?”

“She arrived at 10 this morning and has been in a meeting with the design department ever since. I heard that she hasn't had any meals and hasn't left yet.”

Danielle left home at 9:30 in the morning and arrived at the company around 10 o'clock, but the police said the car accident happened half an hour ago.

Enoch was my cousin and he was the security captain in our company. He would not lie to me.

If she had not driven the car away, who would it have been?

Seeing that I didn't say anything, Enoch lowered his voice and asked me, “Geraldo, do you really need to keep such a close eye on your wife?

“Don’t be paranoid. From what I’ve observed, she is very chaste and always mentions you. You don't know how many people envy her."

But at that moment, I could not listen to any of this. So, I just said, “Yeah, yeah, I know. I'm just asking.”

After that, I hung up the call, felt a little annoyed.

However, I should try to calm myself down first.

I should not be panicked, since panic would lead to confusion and confusion would lead to falling into the trap set by others for me.

Thinking back to what the police said just before, he only said that my car hit someone, but he did not say it must be me.

In this life, I had not left the house at all, so maybe things would turn around.

I hurriedly took a taxi to the scene.
