I Didn’t Lose a Man. I Lost Dead Weight
Chapter 2
I stood up, brushed off the snowflakes that had fallen on me, and turned to leave.
I never liked extreme activities like the super ice slide, but I accidentally learned that Jameson enjoyed thrills and adventure. For so many years, he had only been accommodating me.
Feeling a rush of sweetness and the urge to change for him, I decided to secretly try the super ice slide today, knowing that Jameson was supposed to be at work. I planned to surprise him next time. However, I didn't expect to run into him here.
As I trembled upon getting off the slide, I looked around for Jameson's figure.
They were wearing matching down jackets, Yara intimately holding onto Jameson's arm while taking photos. But didn't he hate posing for pictures?
I still remember when we celebrated our sixth anniversary, eagerly dragging him for photos only to be scolded.
"Why are you getting more childish as you age? Do you want the whole world to know about our relationship? Hurry up and eat before it gets cold."
My eyes reddened as I bit my lip and stepped forward to knock Yara's phone out of her hand.
"Aren't you supposed to be at work? Why are you here?"
At that moment, a flash of panic appeared in Jameson's eyes. He instinctively tried to push Yara away but stopped halfway, letting her hold onto him.
"Evelyn, why are you here?"
Yara stood in front of Jameson with a sweet smile.
"You misunderstood, Evelyn. I'm just here traveling, and since I'm unfamiliar with the place, I asked senior Jameson to look after me. I hope you don't mind."
Jameson quickly added, "Yes, Yara is here for a trip, and I'm just showing her around as a local."
"There's nothing wrong with a senior taking care of a junior, right? Don't be so narrow-minded."
Yara gently tugged at Jameson's sleeve, her eyes welling up with tears.
"It's okay, Jameson, don't argue because of me. I didn't know Evelyn didn't like me, so I'll leave now. I can manage on my own."
Jameson tenderly stroked her shoulder and glared at me.
"Don't mind her, Yara. She's just a buzzkill."
"You came here to travel, and it's my responsibility to take care of you."
"Evelyn, if there's nothing wrong, let's all have fun together. The truth will prevail."
A sharp pain filled my heart and a wave of anger surged through me.
The truth will prevail? You must be blind.
In college, most of my arguments with Jameson were because of Yara, but he never took it seriously, always saying that Yara reminded him of his younger sister.
But would a sister send pictures of her legs to her brother?
In moments of speechlessness, one really feels like laughing.
Such a sweet scene, it would be perfect if the protagonist wasn’t my boyfriend.
Yara walked over and extended her hand, trying to hold mine.
"Evelyn, don't be angry. Let's play together. The super ice slide is thrilling, I want to try it again."
I pulled my hand back in disgust, but Yara suddenly fell, harshly kneeling on the ice. Her black stockings ripped open, and blood seeped from her knee.
Jameson forcefully pushed me away.
"Evelyn! Are you fucking crazy?"
She did it on purpose!
I stood there helplessly as Jameson picked up Yara and walked away, abandoning me. The surrounding tourists enjoyed the spectacle, pointing fingers and even taking out their phones to record.
I raised my arm to shield myself, but the sounds continuously echoed, triggering painful memories. This time, Jameson wasn’t by my side.
He took a few steps, turned back, his brows furrowed, and his eyes filled with anger.
A flicker of hope ignited within me as I looked at him expectantly.
"Evelyn, no matter how unhappy you are, there's no need to hurt Yara. I always thought you were just being jealous. Now I see you've become downright malicious."
Jameson's words cut like a knife, colder than the weather, piercing my heart and leaving it numb.
