Logan crouched on the ground, both hands clamped over his head.

Blood ran down his jaw, and he bared his teeth against the pain.

"Are you sick in the head? Belinda, have you gone completely insane?"

It was lunch hour, and the crowd along the street kept growing.

My company was right next door, and several of the onlookers wore its badges.

And there was Logan, ranting like a lunatic right in front of them.

"You know who Belinda is? VP Matthews from the finance division! Usually all business, all sharp edges, and now she's out here throwing a jealous fit over some young girl! Belinda, have you got no shame?"

This female coworker of Logan's was a piece of work too.

She burst into tears on cue.

"Ma'am, I'm sorry, I really am. I never thought going out for lunch with a coworker would make you this angry. I'm so sorry…"

The people from the back seat climbed out too, and along with the gawkers on the street, they all started laying into me.

"That's VP Matthews? How can she bully people like that? That little girl doesn't look very old to me. Isn't she just throwing her weight around? Who acts like this?"

"You don't know? Her husband, the one with the bleeding head, he's the most doted-on youngest son of the Fox family. Of course Belinda's clinging to him for dear life. She's just scared some young girl's going to steal him away."

"This woman's impossible. What rich guy wants someone this pushy? If you ask me, she can't even cling to a man right."

Maybe it was these people's words that put the spine back in Logan.

I could see him swell with confidence.

"See that? What's with the look? What, do you really regret how you just treated me?"

I found it funny, nothing more. "No." I told him the plain truth. "I just think it's humiliating that a man like you is my husband."

One of the guys behind Logan jumped in at once.

"Did I hear that right? We call you ma'am and you actually think you're somebody? My buddy here, the youngest Fox, gets whatever he wants. What kind of woman couldn't he have? You must've saved the galaxy in a past life to get the chance to marry in. Your family's ancestors' graves must be smoking with good fortune, and you're still putting on airs?"

Katherine hid behind Logan, quietly wiping at her tears.

"Logan, have I caused you trouble?"

"How could you? She just doesn't know her place, that's all. Belinda, apologize to Katie and I'll let this go. Otherwise, we're getting divorced."

Hearing that, I asked, not quite certain.

"Divorce? Sure. As long as your father agrees, I'm ready any time."

Logan shoved both hands in his pockets and looked me up and down.

He pointed at my badge and gave a contemptuous little laugh.

"You still don't know, do you? My big brother's project, three years in the making, has landed. Starting today, in Nightport City, the Fox family calls the shots! You got lucky, marrying in three years ago. If it were now, a VP like you would only be fit to shine the Fox family's shoes."

Watching him strut on borrowed power, I really wanted to laugh.

"I don't think your brother's project is going to succeed."

Logan's face changed slightly. "What's that supposed to mean?"
