My Husband Humiliated Me While His Mistress Murdered My Grandfather

8.3 / 10.0
A production office smelling of stale coffee and fresh ink becomes the stage for a devastating betrayal. Staring at the revised script sent by her husband, Marcus Webb, she discovers her name paired with Giana Castro's. Giana has utterly gutted her sharpest, most intense scenes, replacing raw tension with shallow, spoon-fed monologues. This professional humiliation marks the beginning of a dark, dangerous game.

My Husband Humiliated Me While His Mistress Murdered My Grandfather Chapter 1

The production office smelled like cold coffee and printer ink. I stood at the glass conference table, staring at the revised script pages Marcus Webb had couriered over that morning. My name was still on the cover. Underneath it, in fresh bold print: "Co-written by Giana Castro."

I flipped through slowly. Scene twelve — the confrontation I'd spent two weeks sharpening into something that cut — had been gutted. The subtext was gone. The tension was gone. What remained was a shallow vehicle for a character to deliver monologues directly into camera, spelling out emotions any competent actress could have shown with a single look.

I kept my face still. My hands didn't shake.

Marcus stood by the window, arms crossed, jaw tight. He'd been my attorney for six years. He knew what this script had been before Ethan got his hands on it.

"They're calling it a 'creative collaboration,'" Marcus said quietly. "Ethan signed off personally."

I turned another page. Scene eighteen was worse. Giana had rewritten the ending so her character — originally a supporting role — now delivered the film's emotional climax. The protagonist I'd built over two years had been shoved to the margins of her own story.

"When does this go public?" I asked.

Marcus checked his phone. "It already did. Studio sent the press release an hour ago."

I closed the script. Set it down. Looked out at the hazy Los Angeles skyline and felt nothing but a dull, familiar ache in my chest.

"Siena," Marcus said carefully. "We could fight this. Breach of creative contract. Your original drafts are copyrighted. We have leverage."

I didn't answer. We both knew why I wouldn't fight.

Arthur.

Marcus exhaled through his nose, turned back to the window. "I'll draft a statement for damage control."

"Don't bother," I said. "It won't matter."

That night, alone in my hotel room, I opened my laptop. The entertainment blogs had already picked up the story. *Siena Roberts Loses Her Edge,* one headline read. *Once-Acclaimed Screenwriter's Latest Project Raises Eyebrows.* The comments were worse. People who'd never read a word I'd written were diagnosing my creative decline, speculating about burnout, suggesting I'd been overrated all along.

I scrolled until my eyes burned. Then I closed the laptop and sat in the dark.

They were blaming me for something I hadn't done. And I couldn't defend myself without explaining why — without admitting that my husband controlled my career because he controlled my grandfather's life.

I thought about calling Ethan. Asking him to stop. Begging, if that's what it took.

Then I remembered the last time I'd begged.

I didn't call.

The next morning, I flew back to New York. I didn't go home. I went straight to Ford Entertainment's headquarters — a glass tower in Midtown that Ethan had built with family money and ruthless acquisitions. His office was on the forty-third floor. I'd been there exactly twice before. Once for a charity gala. Once to sign our prenup.

I walked past his assistant without stopping. She called after me, but I was already pushing open the door.

Ethan looked up from his desk. He didn't seem surprised.

"Siena," he said evenly. "I wasn't expecting you."

I crossed the room and dropped the divorce papers onto his desk. They landed with a soft slap against the polished wood.

Ethan glanced down. His expression didn't change. He leaned back in his chair, fingers steepled, and looked at me with something close to amusement.

"You're upset about the script," he said.

"I'm done," I said.

He smiled. Not cruelly. Almost fondly. Like I was a child throwing a tantrum he'd seen a hundred times before.

"No," he said quietly. "You're not."

I felt heat rise in my chest. My hands curled into fists at my sides.

"Sign them," I said.

Ethan picked up the papers, flipped through them lazily, then set them down again. He stood, walked around the desk, and stopped a few feet away from me. Close enough that I had to tilt my head back to meet his eyes.

"Arthur's care costs about forty thousand dollars a month," Ethan said calmly. "Round-the-clock nursing. Specialized equipment. Access to the best cardiologist on the East Coast. All of it funded through my foundation."

I didn't move.

"Walk out that door," Ethan continued, "and I pull the funding by morning."

The room went very quiet.

I stared at him. At the man I'd married seven years ago. At the face I used to wake up next to and think I understood.

"You wouldn't," I said.

His smile didn't waver. "Try me."

I felt something crack inside my chest. Not break. Just shift. Like a bone setting wrong.

I picked up the divorce papers. Folded them carefully. Put them in my bag.

Ethan watched me, satisfied.

"Good," he said. "Now go home. Get some rest. You look tired."

I turned and walked out.

That evening, I went to Mount Sinai. Arthur's room was on the eighth floor, in the private wing Ethan's foundation had built. The nurses knew me. They smiled and waved me through.

Arthur was sitting up in bed, reading. He looked thin. Older than I wanted to admit. But his eyes were still sharp, still warm.

"Siena," he said, setting the book aside. "Twice in one week. I'm spoiled."

I sat in the chair by his bed and tried to smile. "How are you feeling?"

"Old," he said. "But functional."

He studied my face. He had a way of looking at me that made me feel like he could see straight through to the parts I tried to hide.

"How's the new project?" he asked.

I lied. "It's going well."

He didn't press. He just reached over and took my hand. His grip was warm, dry, steady.

I memorized it. The weight of his fingers. The angle of the reading lamp on the bedside table. The faint antiseptic smell of the room.

I didn't know then that I was collecting details for a last memory.

I just held his hand and pretended everything was fine.
