Chapter 1

Chapter 1

Why have you stopped loving your wife?

I saw Alexander's answer to this widely discussed question.

Because she wasn't a virgin!

He said his wife was very kind, loved him, cared for the family and being an ideal spouse.

But this incident had been bothering me.

Lately, I hired a new secretary, a fresh graduate who had never experienced love, possessing a pure and innocent demeanor.

She had also been seducing me.

I found myself tempted!

As I read the messages on the phone, a shiver ran down my spine.

I couldn't help but continue scrolling down and found many netizens criticized him.

"If you mind so much, why did you marry her in the first place?"

He replied, "I didn't know before we got married. And given our long-standing love relationship and the sacrifices she made for me, I felt unjust not to marry her."

"Our marriage is turning into a prison. We always quarrel, and I feel guilty every time I see her crying.

"Maybe after I try to be with my secretary, I'll be willing to return to my family."

Someone mocked, "I doubt your wife will take you back once you've tried."

Alexander replied, "She won't leave me. I am certain of that."

His tone was resolute and self-assured.

Because he knew better than anyone the depth of my love for him.

Bitterness consumed me. My chest felt tight and painful as if struck by a heavy hammer.

We were once the most admired couple on campus until our wedding night!

He had respected me, refraining from any intimacy during our courtship. We both wished to preserve that special moment for this night.

I was nervous yet eager, tidied up and shyly nestled under the covers.

He smiled at me gently, calming my nerves.

His gaze was so tender that moved me deeply.

Except for a moment of stiffness of him in the middle.

I inquired about it.

He said it was nothing.

I was too tired on our wedding night and didn't think much of it. But since then, he had started to nitpick about everything.

He sometimes blamed my cooking for not being delicious and sometimes said I didn't iron his clothes properly. Sometimes, I accidentally spilled some water, and he would accuse me of wasting water resources.

Ironically, he's invested in a golf course that consumes more water than I could in a lifetime.

I once asked why he did this with a grievance.

Why did he change abruptly after marriage?

He'd simply deflect, claiming I was overly sensitive and overthinking, dismissing it all as trivial.

Yeah, they were trivial matters.

But all these trifles added up and became a massive burden weighing down on me.

In these two years of marriage, they've left me trembling, anxious, and miserable.

Now, I finally understand the reason.

But I clearly was a virgin!

I logged out of his account and turned off the phone.

At this time, Alexander's driver called, reporting a car issue and asking if I could pick him up.

I checked the time, grabbed a coat and went out.

Arriving at their company's party in a hotel suite, I found a lively scene. Alexander sat at the center, exuding a relaxed and remarkable aura.

Beside him was a young beauty in her early twenties, who should be the secretary Eloise. Her typical slender figure and appearance bore a resemblance to me.

She was looking at Alexander lovingly.

People around her started to tease her, but she blushed and raised her glass to toast Alexander.

"How boring! Do a cross-cup toast."

"That's right, Mr. Ford won't refuse!"

Eloise became even more bashful and stuttered, "Mr. Ford... Mr. Ford, I toast to you."

Alexander raised his eyebrows and smiled, then crossed his arms with hers. They were like a newlywed couple.

Everyone cheered and the atmosphere became heated.

Their gazes lingered. Eloise's cheeks flushed, her wine-tinted lips delicate, and her body was slightly moving closer to him.

They looked so in love.

I couldn't bear to watch as I entered the room.

Only then did everyone notice me and the atmosphere suddenly turned weird.

Someone said, "You're here, Emilia. We are all fooling around. Please take a seat."

I didn't sit on the chair he offered but walked towards Alexander.

Eloise seemed startled. She moved close to Alexander like a little rabbit, pulling his sleeves with her fingers.

I smiled gently, "Ms. James, I'd like to sit next to my husband. Please move aside!"

She pouted, gazing at Alexander with a look of grievance.

"Mr. Ford..."

The little girl's plea was soft and pitiful.

Alexander was expressionless and said nothing.

Eloise's tears rolled down. She sobbed, covered her face and ran away.

I sat down calmly, smiling and allowing everyone to continue eating and drinking.

There's someone tried to lighten the mood, so it wasn't awkward.

After a while, someone wanted to toast us. I naturally picked up the glass, but Alexander refused to cooperate at all.

He poured himself some wine and drank it glass after glass, looking depressed.

I reminded him quietly.

Suddenly, he sneered, slamming his cup heavily on the table.

The cup broke into pieces and the wine inside spilled all over my face.

There were even flying pieces that scratched my face.

Blood mixed with the wine flowed down, and those around me gasped in shock.

But Alexander remained indifferent.

He looked at me as if I were an enemy, "Who allowed you to come? Is this fun for you?"

After saying that, he left on his own, leaving me feeling embarrassed!

I gently covered the wound with my fingers, feeling so much heartbroken.

If we hadn't married, he would never be willing to treat me like this.

I followed him outside.

In the car, Alexander was talking on the phone to Eloise, comforting her in a soft voice.

"I apologize for her behavior. She's been homebound for a while, not good at socializing.

"Don't belittle yourself. You're the best.

"How about this? I'll give you a raise next month if you don't cry!"

The girl was acting coquettishly, and he was smiling with a face full of doting.

I slammed the brakes abruptly.

He hit his head on the car wall, hung up the phone and yelled at me, "Emilia, are you out of your mind?"

I took a deep breath, holding back the tears.

"Do you no longer want this family?"

He held his forehead and sighed, "Here you go again. I'm sick of it."

"I had no relationship with Eloise. Do you know how embarrassed I am that you made such a scene today?"

"Emilia, I plead with you. Can you please stop for a moment?"

It's my fault again.

I smiled bitterly, "Do you still love me?"

He turned away impatiently, "We've been married so many years. Please don't do this. Go back quickly."

His indirect response was already an answer.

When we were in love, before I even had the chance to ask him if he loved me, he was already eager to tell me.

Every morning began with declarations of love.

He was romantic and considerate.

He assured me his love would never fade.

But now he was unwilling to even give a perfunctory response.

"You don't love me anymore."

"Alexander, we used to love each other deeply. I thought our love would last forever, but only ten years."

My voice was filled with sorrow.

He seemed to realize something and softened his voice.

"I spoke too harshly just now. Don't woolgather. Of course, I love you..."

"Stop trying to deceive me!"

I shouted at him, tears streaming uncontrollably, "I've seen your heartfelt words on the Internet already. Do you want me to read them to you word by word?"

His expression suddenly changed and he looked panicked.

"What I said online was nonsense. Don't take it seriously. How can you believe such words?"

"If you can say it, why can't I believe it?"

He was speechless.

"I don't understand. We've been together since high school. You're my only man. How could you think that I..."

I bit my lips, feeling angry and sad.

He snorted softly, "Don't forget, we were in a long-distance relationship for a year after graduation from college. At that time, you had a classmate who was pursuing you persistently."

I felt helpless, "Just this?"

"And on your wedding night, you didn't bleed."

I felt like my anger was about to explode, clutching my stomach, unable to speak.

Tears continued to flow from the eyes.

"You are truly...so holy!"

"I'm not worthy of you. You want to be with Eloise, right?"

Alexander frowned and said, "Not be with her. I just want to experience a virgin. If I don't experience it in my whole life, I will regret it."

He said this with a look of shame on his face, gripping my hand tightly.

"Darling, after all these years, I know you love me the most. Just agree on me this!"

"I promise to quit Eloise after this, live with you wholeheartedly, and never lose my temper with you again."

His eyes were earnest and intense, filled with desperate hope.

The same eyes he had when he confessed his love to me at seventeen.

It was said that people's hearts were fickle. But how did my sweetheart become like this?

My tears fell onto our intertwined hands, and a smile slowly appeared on my face.

"Okay, I agree."

He was incredulous, his eyes brimming with joy, "Darling, are you serious?"

I nodded. "Yes."

"But it has to be after we end our marriage!"

Alexander walked away angrily. He no longer lived at home and unilaterally ignored me. This was his usual strategy.

After I annoyed him, instead of addressing the issue directly, he would wait for me to reflect on my actions, admit my faults and seek his forgiveness.

And every time, he succeeded.

In order not to lose him, I always cried and apologized, begging him to forgive me.

He would then casually stroke my head as if comforting a puppy.

Then I hugged him tightly in my collapse, hoping to be back to normal with him. But this time, I didn't want to apologize.

Obviously, I was not wrong at all!

I sent him the divorce papers.

He didn't reply. But he, who never posted on Instagram, started posting frequently.

The content all revolved around Eloise. He praised her cute, beautiful makeup and the romance of two shadows merging.

He was like a young man in love.

I smiled sarcastically, but my heart was filled with sadness.

To make matters worse, I accidentally rear-ended a car on the road, shattering its headlights.

I quickly got out of the car to apologize and found the owner was my college classmate, Daniel Warren.

When he saw me, he was very surprised.

I wanted to compensate him, but he refused.

Finally, I treated him to a meal to settle the incident.

"Emilia, your beauty and grace remain unchanged from our school days."

Blushing, I replied, "Thank you for the compliment. I've been a married woman for quite some time now."

As he stirred his coffee, he paused, "Are you married to Alexander? Is he treating you well?"

I hesitated, intending to offer a polite response about his care.

But recalling the torment these days, I couldn't say it.

I could only focus on the meal.

Fortunately, he did not ask any further questions and changed the topic, talking about his deeds over the years.

He was humorous and open-minded, relieving my depressed mood.

But unexpectedly, Alexander and Eloise also came to this restaurant for dinner.

They saw me as soon as they walked in.

Eloise glared at me unkindly, "Mr. Ford, we were worried that Emilia would misunderstand us. It seems that she's found other pleasures already!"

I retorted, "Some people's hearts are as dirty as their thoughts. Ms. James, learn to act appropriately."

She was so angry at my blunt words that she raised her hand to hit me.

I stood up and slapped her faster than she could.

The slap was so strong that her cheek turned red and fingerprints appeared.

She was stunned, and she cried in grievance.

"How dare you?"

I said expressionlessly, "These luxuries you are wearing were all gifts from Alexander. Legally, as his wife, I have the right to reclaim them. Can your salary cover the compensation, Ms. James?"

She didn't dare to speak but turned to Alexander in tears with pleading.

Alexander had no intention of caring about her. He just stared at Daniel with hatred.

"Why are you here?"

He was extremely concerned about Daniel during school days, causing a few arguments during their long-distance relationship.

I explained, "I rear-ended his car accidentally. To make amends, I invited him for dinner."

Alexander said, "I'm talking to him. Why are you so impatient to speak? Are you feeling guilty?"

"Alexander, have you lost your mind?" I roared with rage.

Daniel said seriously, "Emilia and I met by coincidence. If you don't believe me, you can check it out, Mr. Ford.

"Also, with all due respect, you are not qualified to question Emilia."
