Chapter 3

CASSANDRA P. O. V

The storm outside was relentless, battering the windows of the manor with an anger that mirrored my own. My heart sank at the thought of being trapped here, in this house, with Alpha Dean and the chaos that had become my life. I had prepared for my voyage back home to visit my parents tomorrow. I wanted to escape, but I could already feel the weight of disappointment settling over me like an oppressive fog.

"What is it going to take for me to get out of here?" I muttered, pacing the expanse of the living room.

I hugged myself tightly, imagining the comfort of my parent’s home, their laughter, and the smell of home-cooked meals wafting in the air.

Also, I could hear Alpha Dean’s voice echoing from the meeting he had convened with his pack at the dining table. Words like “strategy” and “attack” filled the air, but all I could hear was the betrayal in his silence towards me. It was unbearable. I had turned a blind eye to his late-night escapades, and now that I knew the truth that he was entangled with Winona, my heart was shattered, layered beneath my fragile facade of patience.

As I retreated to my room, the soft glow of afternoon light streaming through the window caught my eye. My wedding picture, framed and dustier than I remembered, drew me in. I approached it, running my fingers over the image of us, two blissful souls, seemingly unaware of the storm brewing within.

"What went wrong?" I whispered to the room, the walls witnesses to my heartache. I had given Dean everything, my love, my trust, my very soul. Yet, it felt like standing before a mirror, cracking under the pressure of my gaze.

After multiple miscarriage, he had drifted further away, as if the void he created within me somehow widened the gap between us.

"Was I ever enough?" I had poured my being into this marriage, only to watch it disintegrate into bitter pieces.

Noon came and went, and the muffled sounds of voices filled the air as I made my way downstairs, feigning interest in their discussions. I couldn’t help but steal glances at Winona as she flitted around the dining table, her form a stark reminder of what I had lost. Their whispered exchanges were laced with casual intimacy, and it made my stomach churn.

"You’re quite incredible," Winona purred, her laughter soft yet flirtatious. Dean chuckled, the sound chilling me to my core. I rolled my eyes at the scene, folding my arms tightly across my chest. I yearned to escape, to have the courage to confront him, yet I could only stew in silence, waiting for the storm outside to match the tempest within.

After the meeting, I thought it a clever ruse to summon Winona to my room under the guise of needing help finding my missing necklace. A piece that Dean gifted me long ago, a token of his affection that was now an ironic reminder of the love he so carelessly tossed aside.

"Winona!" I called her name, keeping my tone steady as she entered my room, that annoying bounce in her step. "I’m missing my necklace. I was hoping you could help me find it."

"Of course, Cassandra!" she chirped, a snap in her tone as she glanced around.

But just then, my heart dropped. There it was glistening against her neck, the pendant swaying, mocking me.

"Why do you have my necklace?" I blurted out, my voice a mixture of disbelief and anger.

Her eyes widened slightly, and she raised her hands defensively. "Oh, this? I-I found it! Just lying around... I thought it was too beautiful to leave there."

"Beautiful?" The word dripped with sarcasm as I stepped closer, my frustration boiling over. "It’s mine, Winona. Give it back."

The silence stretched between us like a taut wire, both of us holding our ground. I fought the urge to claw it from her neck, to strip away her audacity. How had I not seen how she wore my treasures like trophies, paraded around flaunting the remnants of what once was ours?

As she moved, I saw the way her hand lingered on the pendant, the way her fingers traced the intricate details of the wolf's head. It was a possessive gesture, a silent claim to something that wasn't hers.

"You know, that necklace was a gift from Dean. It's very special to me." I said.

She didn't respond, her eyes fixed on the floor. I knew she understood. She knew it was mine.

The door creaked open and Alpha Dean entered the room, his scent a familiar mix of leather and musk.

"Cassandra, what are you doing?" he said, his voice a low rumble.

My heart sank. He knew. He knew Winona was wearing it. But why? Why would he let her wear it?

I stared at him, my anger burning like wildfire in my chest.

"You gave it to her, didn't you?" I whispered, my voice barely audible.

He didn't answer, his gaze fixed on the floor. I knew then, with a certainty that chilled me to the bone, that I was right. He had given it to her. My necklace, a symbol of our love, a promise of forever, was now a token of his betrayal.
