Chapter 2

“Who do you think you are? And you, you are just a shameful mistress. What qualifications do you have to mention Bridget in front of me?”

Samuel was stunned. This was the first time I scolded him.

Sacha beside me looked at me pitifully and went into Samuel’s arms and cried. Seeing her crying, Samuel comforted the person in his arms and turned his face to me. “Apologize!”

“You actually asked me to apologize to your mistress? Did you get kicked in the head by a donkey?” I turned around, walked into the bedroom and closed the door.

Samuel outside the house turned the door handle in a rage, banging on the door and yelling at me to get out. Sacha’s understanding voice came to persuade him.

I lay on the bed tiredly, staring at the ceiling in a trance. In the past, my daughter would sleep next to me at this time, with her little arms around my neck. But I would never see her again.

I closed my eyes and my mind was filled with my daughter’s smile before she died.

My Bridget was so young and her life was taken away. Tears fell silently and I fell asleep in pain.

After waking up the next day, I walked out of the bedroom tiredly and the two annoying people were gone.

I took a taxi to the emergency department of the hospital to get my daughter’s death certificate, but I didn’t expect to meet them there.

I pretended not to know them and was about to leave. Sacha stopped me from a distance. “Cynthia, why are you here too?”

She walked toward me with Samuel’s arm around her and I stopped. “What’s wrong?”

“Oh, Cynthia, I didn’t expect to meet you here. Are you sick? It’s all my fault. If I hadn’t pestered Samuel to come with me to get the test results, you wouldn’t be here alone. I apologize to you for what happened last night. After all, Samuel cares about me too much. You two should stop quarreling because of me. Make peace quickly.”

She stuck out her tongue playfully and Samuel looked at her dotingly. The two of them really looked like a pair of gods and goddesses.

I treated them coldly and didn’t want to communicate with them too much. I left if there was nothing else.

Samuel stopped me unyieldingly and reached out to grab the death certificate in my hand. “Why did you appear in the hospital? What is it in your hand? Let me see.”

I hid my daughter’s death certificate behind me and took two steps back to keep a distance from him. “It has nothing to do with you. I will ask a lawyer to draft a divorce agreement and send it to you. If there is nothing else, I will leave first to avoid your girlfriend from misunderstanding and getting jealous.”

My sarcastic words made Samuel frown and stare at me with a slight reproach. Maybe he thought I was still angry about the previous incident, so he softened his tone to coax me.

“I was wrong about what happened that day. Don’t hold on to it. There is nothing between Sacha and me. I just think it is too difficult for her to be alone. In addition, I had a good relationship with her before, so don’t think too much.”

In the past, I would be very happy to follow the steps he gave me. But now, I just hoped to quickly get rid of my relationship with him.

I glanced at Sacha who was proud and raised my voice to attract the attention of others. “So what you mean is that you think Sacha is pitiful for being pregnant and abandoned, right?”

The passers-by who were still in a hurry slowed down their pace after hearing what I said and looked at us sideways. Sacha’s face turned darker and she stared at me with resentment.

Samuel covered my mouth and looked at me disapprovingly. “What are you doing? Sacha is a girl after all. How hurtful is it for you to say that? Apologize to her for what happened yesterday, just for my sake, okay?”

I nodded perfunctorily. “Got it, remember to sign the divorce agreement. From now on, your affairs have nothing to do with me.”

I walked past him and tried to leave, but he grabbed me again. I was irritated and wanted to break free, but his strength increased instead. Sacha stood beside him pitifully, like a frightened little white rabbit.

While entangled with him, the death certificate in my hand accidentally fell to the ground. I squatted down to pick it up, but Samuel got there first.

After seeing the content on it clearly, his pupils widened in shock and he looked at me in disbelief. His voice was trembling. “Is this true?”
