Chapter 4

"Mommy—"

"Mama..."

"Mommy!"

The group of children once again rushed at me, trying to cling to my legs, but Thalia stepped in and blocked them.

“Uncle, Auntie—don't you know what kind of person Amber really is?” Thalia’s voice trembled as she stood in front of my parents.

Her eyes were red with anger. “You seriously believe a few words from these men over your own daughter? She's your flesh and blood! How can you just sit there and let them humiliate her like this?”

But my parents looked as if they’d been possessed. They wouldn’t even glance in my direction.

“Who says we’re just talking?” one of the men said coldly. “We have DNA test results.”

All six men pulled out documents.

“If you’re questioning their authenticity, we welcome the police to arrange new tests,” another added smugly.

Of course I demanded a retest.

The police brought in a forensic doctor to draw blood samples from me and all six children.

When the results came back, I was completely stunned.

The paternity test results for all six children came back with a match of over 99.99%.

“What do you have to say now?!” Lester spat at me in disgust.

Even my parents didn't look surprised, like they had already expected this outcome.

Only Thalia clutched the reports in disbelief, flipping through them again and again. “No... this can’t be right. It’s impossible... completely impossible...”

Although the police were present, several nosy neighbors still dared to hang around the doorway, peeking in.

One officer cleared his throat and said, “This is a civil matter—we can’t intervene legally. You all should settle this privately.”

“No! This is wrong! I don’t know these people!” I rushed forward and blocked the officer. “I want a medical exam! A doctor can easily verify whether I’ve ever given birth.”

The police actually seemed to agree and were about to summon the forensic examiner again.

“What more do you want?!” My mother suddenly shrieked. “If you’ve lost all shame, do you expect me to lose mine too?!”

She lunged toward the wall as if to bash her head in. Two officers dropped their phones and ran to stop her.

“If my daughter behaved like this, I’d want to die too,” muttered one of the watching neighbors.

“The Hart family’s been upright their whole lives. Who would've thought their daughter would ruin their reputation in a single day?”

“There are DNA tests! The kids are hers. What more proof does she need?”

The officer who rescued my mother turned to me with piercing eyes. “The forensic team is swamped every day. DNA doesn’t lie. If you didn’t give birth to these kids, then who did?”

That was exactly what I wanted to know.

Why were my own parents siding with these men? Why were they helping ruin my life?

In my last life, I died without ever learning why these men targeted me. Just before my death, flickers of forgotten memories surged through my mind—but none of them could explain this.

As I stood there in silence, the police prepared to leave.

No! They couldn’t leave!

If they walked out that door, I knew I’d suffer the same fate as before—beaten to death. And maybe this time, even Thalia would be dragged down with me.

If I couldn’t even save myself after being reborn—and worse, if I end up hurting Thalia, then what's the point of having a second life?

Suddenly, I remembered something—something very important.

I looked again at the six children, and the realization hit me.

I stepped forward and blocked the officers once more.

“I know who these children really belong to.”
