For three years, Emma poured her soul into Tyler's blockbusters, only to be erased from every credit. When he gifts her intimate memoir to his resurrected flame, Chloe, and his aristocratic mother pressures her into silence, Emma walks away—divorce papers filed, the final script locked away. At the Academy Gala, Tyler expects a broken ex, but instead watches her descend from Julian Sterling's limousine as the heiress of Vance Pictures. Now, Hollywood's untouchable king has made Emma his obsession, and Tyler's empire crumbles.

He Let His Mistress Play My Life, So I Fired Him from Hollywood Chapter 1

I spent three years hiding in the shadows, writing every word of the scripts that made Tyler a Hollywood prodigy. On our third anniversary, I stood in his penthouse with cold dinner on the table, watching him on live television.

He had his arm wrapped around his first love, Chloe.

He announced his next masterpiece—a deeply intimate script based on my miscarriages, my tears, and my devotion.

Except he looked into the camera and said, “This story belongs entirely to Chloe, my true muse.”

His mother texted me: Pack your bags, a girl from nowhere doesn't deserve a seat at the Oscars.

I didn't shed a tear.

I shredded the unregistered final act, revoked his commercial copyright clearance, and called my estranged father.

It was time Tyler learned that the "penniless girl" he married was the sole heiress to the biggest studio in California.

The twin tapered candles had burned down to uneven stubs, pooling pale wax across the white linen tablecloth.

It was twenty minutes past midnight. The ribeye steaks had long since gone cold, the garlic herb butter congealing into a greasy white film over the meat. Beside my plate lay a fresh, heavyweight stack of paper bound by two clean brass brads—the completed manuscript of *Broken Soles*. One hundred and twenty pages. Three years of blood, sleepless nights, and raw, exposed nerve endings, finished at five yesterday morning.

It had been our third wedding anniversary.

On the mounted television across from the dining table, the live broadcast of the Hollywood Indie Cinema Vanguard Gala filled the quiet living room with the roar of press crowds and ambient violin music.

Tyler was supposed to be here four hours ago. He had sent a text at six, swearing he would only make a ten-minute red carpet appearance to appease his producers before coming straight home to celebrate.

Instead, the broadcast camera cut to the main press line outside the ballroom, and there he was.

Tyler looked magnificent in his bespoke midnight-blue tuxedo, his dark hair styled to effortless perfection. His smile was dazzling, entirely devoid of the exhaustion he claimed to suffer every time he came home to our bed.

He wasn't standing alone.

Chloe stood plastered against his side, her strapless emerald gown brushing against his trousers. Her manicured hand rested openly against his lapel, her diamond-clad fingers brushing his chest as she leaned in, whispering something into his ear that made him throw his head back in rich, easy laughter.

The entertainment reporter shoved a microphone toward them. "Tyler! Chloe! Word on the boulevard is that Mercer Productions just locked the hottest spec script of the season. Are the rumors true?"

Tyler wrapped his arm naturally around Chloe’s waist, pulling her closer into the frame. The flashbulbs flared around them like a wall of lightning.

"They're true, Nancy," Tyler said, his deep voice carrying that magnetic, patrician confidence that had made me fall for him in graduate school. "We're officially entering pre-production on *Broken Soles*. It’s an intimate, devastating story about sacrifice, identity, and the price of artistry. We're aiming straight for festival season and a full awards run."

My breath locked in my throat. My fingers tightened against the edge of the dining table.

"And who do we have to thank for this masterpiece?" the reporter pressed, practically buzzing. "Who wrote it?"

Tyler turned his gaze toward Chloe, his expression softening into an intimate look that belonged behind closed bedroom doors.

"I wrote it," Tyler said smoothly to thirty million viewers. "It’s my baby. A labor of love that I crafted from the ground up, built specifically around Chloe’s extraordinary talent. She has been my muse, my spark, and the heartbeat behind every single word."

Chloe looked up at him through thick eyelashes, offering the camera a sultry, emotional smile.

"Tyler captured something so rare here," Chloe said softly into the mic, closing her eyes for a moment of rehearsed theatricality. "There’s a monologue in the second act that completely broke me the first time I read it. 'Grief isn't a storm that passes; it’s the quiet after the nursery goes dark at three in the morning, when your body still aches to feed a ghost.'"

A sharp, violent pain tore through my chest.

That sentence did not belong to Tyler. It did not belong to Chloe.

It was lifted word for word from the locked journal I kept in my nightstand last November—written through blinded tears while I sat on the cold floor of our bathroom, miscarrying our ten-week-old child while Tyler was three thousand miles away at an after-party in Manhattan.

He hadn't just stolen my screenplay. He had harvested my deepest trauma and handed it to another woman to wear like a costume on national television.

Before the numbness could fully settle over my skin, the front door clicked open.

Heavy, sharp footsteps echoed across the hardwood entryway. My mother-in-law, Evelyn Mercer, stepped into the dining room without bothering to wipe her designer heels. She wore a tailored camel-hair coat, her silver-streaked hair swept back into a rigid chignon, her face set in its usual expression of mild disgust.

She didn't glance at the dead candles, the untouched meal, or my pale face.

Evelyn walked straight to the table and dropped a thick manila folder directly onto the cold, congealed steak on Tyler's plate.

"Sign it," Evelyn said, not bothering with a greeting.

I stared at the grease soaking into the bottom edge of the folder. "What is this?"

"A standard consultant release and non-disclosure agreement," Evelyn replied, pulling off her leather gloves finger by finger. "Chloe’s legal team already signed off on their end. You'll receive a generous ghostwriting fee wired to your personal account by noon tomorrow, provided you keep your mouth shut."

I slowly lifted my eyes to meet hers. "Tyler just told the entire industry that he wrote *Broken Soles* for her."

"Because that is the narrative that wins Oscars," Evelyn said, her tone flat and completely remorseless. "Chloe Hayes is a third-generation Hollywood starlet with five million followers and the entire voting academy wrapped around her finger. Tyler is an emerging visionary director from a legendary cinematic family. That is the story that sells tickets and takes home gold."

She leaned forward, placing both hands on the back of Tyler’s empty chair.

"Look at yourself, June. You're a girl from an ordinary suburb with no industry pedigree, no connections, and no public profile. If your name is attached to this script, it becomes a depressing low-budget indie that dies in two theaters. Under Tyler and Chloe, it becomes a cultural phenomenon."

"He stole my diary, Evelyn," I said, my voice shockingly level despite the roaring in my ears. "He stole the baby we lost."

"He turned useless private sorrow into art," Evelyn corrected coldly. "You should be thanking him. For someone with your background, being allowed to provide the raw material for a Mercer production is a godsend. Don't be greedy, and don't let your petty little ego as a wife sabotage my son’s future. Sign the paper, take the money, and stay in the background where you belong."

I looked at the folder. Through the translucent vellum cover sheet, I could see Chloe Hayes’s sweeping, theatrical signature in bold purple ink.

A strange, absolute calm settled over me. The fog in my mind cleared, leaving behind a cold, sharp clarity.

I stood up.

I didn't yell. I didn't cry. I didn't throw the expensive china against the wall.

Instead, I reached across the table, bypassing the agreement entirely, and picked up the bound manuscript of *Broken Soles*. Tucked behind the thick cardstock back cover was an envelope containing the official, certified registration certificate from the U.S. Copyright Office, stamped and dated four months before Tyler had ever laid eyes on the draft.

I walked over to the built-in mahogany bookshelf near the window, pushed aside an antique vase, and exposed the steel keypad of the wall safe.

I entered my code. The heavy door clicked open with a dull mechanical thud.

I slipped the manuscript and the original copyright certificate inside, shut the steel door firmly, and spun the combination dial until the tumblers locked tight.

Evelyn watched me, her eyebrows drawing together in sharp irritation. "What do you think you're doing? Take the paperwork out and sign it. Tyler will be home shortly to collect the draft."

I turned around, walked back to the table, and stopped directly in front of her.

Slowly, I reached down to my left hand. I pulled the platinum wedding band from my third finger—the ring Tyler had placed there three years ago with vows of mutual devotion—and dropped it onto the grease-stained manila folder. It landed with a tiny, sharp clink.

Evelyn’s mouth parted slightly, her rigid composure cracking with shock. "Have you lost your mind?"

"Tyler can have the gala," I said quietly, looking directly into her cold eyes. "He can have Chloe, he can have the cameras, and he can have the credit for the first two acts he memorized."

I pulled my car keys from my pocket and gripped them in my palm.

"But the original copyright is locked in my name, and the revised third act—the resolution that makes the entire film work—is still in my head. Since you both believe he's a genius who doesn't need me, you'd better pray he can write the ending himself."
