Hey, Alpha! Our Destiny Was a Scam! Chapter 1

Like any she-wolf, I used to dream of finding my mate and building our family through love. I had that fairytale in my head for years—until the years of waiting for that mate wore on me. I turned bitter and thought maybe it wasn’t meant to be, that the whole mate thing was a lie. Then, I met Darius.

It felt so magical, just like everyone said it would. When our eyes met, my heart raced, and an unfamiliar heat swept me off my feet. The sparks when we touched took my breath away. It was so extraordinary that I could still feel it if I closed my eyes, like a sunbeam warming me within, as if it only happened yesterday. But, that fire burned out rather quickly as it ignited. It was now an old memory, something I’m sure I’d never feel again.

All I could feel now was the excruciating pain—pain from being thrown down the stairs by his mistress.

“So what if you’re his mate? He left you unmarked for seven years! For a pathetic bed warmer, you sure are full of yourself.”

Vera’s voice echoed down at me from the top of the stairs. She was Darius’s favorite. Always by his side, getting the affection that used to be mine. It wasn’t the first time one of his mistresses had gotten the better of me, but Vera? She was in a league of her own. She was stronger than me, and Darius paraded her around like his Luna. Every time I see him treating her affectionately, it nicked a piece of my heart.

What have I done to deserve such torture?

He just woke up out of love one day and set me aside like I was nothing.

My body screamed from the impact. The pain clawed through me as I lay at the bottom of the stairs, each breath harder to take. My lungs felt like they were collapsing, and there was this horrible tearing sensation in my stomach. I could barely stay conscious as the world around me blurred.

“Help…” I groaned, reaching out, but no one came. No one ever did.

Vera’s laughter rang out, cruel and cold, as she sauntered down the stairs. “You think anyone’s going to help a half-breed like you? Please, no one in Stormfang gives a damn about you.”

I tried to push myself up, but I had this sinking feeling that something was wrong. I saw blood pooling on the floor beneath me, and a wave of dread crashed into me.

I knew my body well. At the height of the stairs, the fall couldn’t have torn me that grave of a wound.

Why am I bleeding so much?

As the horror gnawed on me, a deep voice cut through the air.

"What's going on here?"

His tone was icy, and his indifferent gaze could freeze even my soul as if he was looking at nothing more than a nuisance.

Vera ran to him, throwing on her innocent act. “She attacked me! I had no choice but to defend myself. You know how she gets…”

“She’s lying! I didn’t…” I tried to explain but he didn’t give me a chance.

“Clean up the mess,” Darius said emotionless and walked away.

He didn't even bother looking back, because all I am to him now was a mess. I felt so crushed that I stopped breathing.

Vera smirked and followed him like a shadow while I caved into the pain. Everything went black and when I woke up, I was in the clinic with the kind healer tending to me.

"Good heavens, you're awake." Clara was the only one in the pack showing me kindness. She clicked her tongue as she scolded me, “You need to stop getting into fights with that woman.”

“I didn’t start it,” I mumbled, my voice weak. “She’s angry because Darius has been coming to my room at night again.”

The healer sighed, shaking her head. “I don’t know what the Alpha’s thinking anymore. He seemed so happy when he brought you home. How could he treat his mate like this?”

I had no answer. I wonder the same thing every day. How could someone who once looked at me like I was his entire world now see me as nothing?

Suddenly, the room became silent, and I noticed Clara looking restless.

“What’s wrong?” I nervously asked.

Clara looked at me, her expression tightening. “Lyanna, I didn’t know how to tell you this, but you’ve lost the baby.”

My heart stopped. "What are you talking about?"

Clara looked confused. “You didn’t know? You were four weeks pregnant.”

I stared at her, numb. My heart felt like it was being ripped apart. I didn’t even know I was pregnant before I lost it.

How could I lose something I never knew I had?

“It wasn’t fair…”

Tears flooded from my eyes as I wailed in Clara’s arms. How could my life be this miserable?

I left the clinic before dusk. My body was a dull, throbbing ache beyond physical pain. My soul hurt in ways I couldn’t even put into words.
