Chapter 67

Chapter 67 – Face to Face

Sharon meets the real Georgia.

Sharon approached the lakeside café, heart hammering in her chest. Mist swirled over the water, partially hiding the wrought-iron railings and the soft glow of street lamps.

The encrypted message had been clear: midnight. Geneva. Come alone.

Every step felt weighted with anticipation and danger. She knew the black SUV across the street hadn't left. The network was watching. Every movement tracked.

She reached the rendezvous point. A woman stood beneath a lamppost, coat drawn tight, head low. Sharon's breath caught.

Georgia Laurent. Alive. In the flesh.

Georgia looked different-hardened, wary, a subtle tension in her shoulders, yet unmistakably herself. Her eyes scanned the surroundings, sharp and alert. When they locked on Sharon, a flicker of recognition-and something deeper-passed through them.

Sharon swallowed. "Georgia..."

Georgia didn't speak at first. She studied Sharon as if trying to assess whether she was friend or threat. Then she nodded once, curtly.

"You were never supposed to be here," Georgia said quietly.

Sharon's heart sank. "I had to come. We have Phase Three accelerating-people are dying. We need to work together."

Georgia's lips pressed into a thin line. "You've been playing my life like a game. And you survived."

Sharon met her gaze evenly. "I had to. And I'm here now. I'm on your side."

They moved to a secluded bench by the lake. Mist curled around their feet, and distant lights reflected off the water.

Georgia pulled a small folder from her coat. Inside: maps, coordinates, and lists of the network's key operatives.

"You were right about James," Georgia said. "He's a lieutenant. But the real mastermind... is still untouchable."

Sharon glanced at the documents. "We've been chasing shadows for months. Now we know why. They've been orchestrating everything from above James. And the call from the dead... that was them."

Georgia's expression hardened. "They know we've found each other. They're aware. And they won't hesitate."

A faint click echoed from nearby. Sharon tensed, realizing the threat wasn't hypothetical anymore.

"Someone's watching," she whispered.

Georgia's gaze hardened. "They always are. But being alive is about playing their game better than they expect. And right now... you're my advantage."

Sharon nodded. Every instinct screamed caution, but the drive to stop Phase Three-and save lives-was stronger.

Suddenly, headlights swept across the mist. A black SUV appeared from the alley behind them, engine growling. Two figures stepped out, hooded, silent.

Sharon grabbed Georgia's arm. "They found us."

Georgia didn't hesitate. She pulled Sharon into a side alley, pressing her against the wall. Shadowed figures passed mere feet from them, scanning, checking for movement.

"They won't give up," Georgia whispered. "Not until they've erased everyone connected to this."

Sharon's stomach twisted. "We're not safe anywhere."

Georgia's eyes glinted with determination. "Safe isn't the point anymore. Survival... and winning. That's what matters."

The figures paused. Then moved on.

Sharon exhaled, barely able to believe it. "That was too close."

Georgia shook her head. "Too close? This is just the beginning. And if we're going to stop Phase Three... we need to move fast, strike hard, and trust no one outside this circle."

Because the reunion is only the calm before the storm. The shadow network has eyes everywhere. Their first face-to-face meeting may have survived tonight-but Phase Three isn't waiting, and the next strike could come any second.
