Chapter 199

Chapter 199 – The Shadow Operatives

James Barnett sat in the dimly lit control room of his safehouse, scanning the city through an array of surveillance feeds. Every major intersection, building rooftop, and alleyway was monitored. Yet despite every precaution, he could feel it: Dominic Reyes' reach had extended further than he anticipated.

"They're coming," Mara said, reviewing the decrypted chatter from Dominic's network.

"Assassins, mercenaries... and they're coordinating like a single organism. They know your moves before you make them."

James' jaw tightened.

"Then we have to act faster," he said.

"Every second we waste gives them an advantage. Georgia has the evidence, and if Dominic wants it back, he'll come with everything he has."

Suddenly, alerts blinked red across multiple feeds: a black SUV moving at high speed near James' secondary safehouse.

"They've found the trail," James muttered.

"Get ready. This isn't going to be subtle."

Outside, the city's shadows seemed alive, stretching over rooftops and alleyways as Dominic's hired operatives moved in silence.

Georgia's secure location was breached by a small but highly trained team. She moved quickly, grabbing hard drives and the laptop, ducking behind reinforced doors. Her breaths were rapid, but her mind was clear-she knew the stakes.

Simultaneously, James and his brother's counterpart-Dominic's imposter twin-found themselves surrounded in an abandoned industrial building. Outside, mercenaries with silenced rifles circled, while drones hovered above, scanning for movement.

James whispered to his brother:

"This is what we've been preparing for. Stay focused. Watch every angle. They won't hesitate."

"You think this is all about me?" his twin asked, eyes narrowing.

"It's about the Barnett legacy. And someone wants it dead."

Gunfire erupted outside, echoing through the building. James and his twin took cover, coordinating silently, moving with practiced precision. Every mercenary strike, every calculated shot, reminded them how close they were to losing everything.

"They're not here to negotiate," James muttered, dodging a hail of bullets.

"They're here to eliminate anyone who knows the truth."

Back in Georgia's safehouse, the team of shadow operatives advanced through reinforced doors, using cutting-edge devices to bypass locks. Her heart raced as she realized escape routes were compromised.

A muffled explosion echoed from James' location. Mara's voice crackled over a secure line:

"James is under fire. They're using mercs, drones, and assassins. This is more than a containment operation-it's an eradication effort."

Georgia grabbed the evidence and ran toward a hidden passage beneath the building. Her mind raced with calculations: if she got the proof to a secure network, Dominic's operations could be exposed, but if she failed...

Outside, James' twin fired back, taking down one of the lead mercenaries, but another operative emerged from the shadows, aiming directly at him.

"James!" Georgia screamed over the line.

A gunshot rang out. Silence followed. Then, the drone cameras caught movement-a figure dragging a prone body into the shadows.

James' eyes widened in horror, realizing: the mercenaries had already claimed their first casualty.

The twins and Georgia were trapped, cornered on three fronts:

• Assassins closing in from the city streets

• Mercenaries infiltrating every safe location

• A network of shadow operatives controlling every exit

James realized the truth: the war for the Barnett legacy wasn't just a fight against Dominic Reyes-it was a battle for survival, and the next move could cost them all their lives.

"We're outnumbered, outgunned... and the clock is running," James muttered.

"One wrong move, and it's over."
