Chapter 187

Chapter 187 – The Media Storm

James Barnett awoke to an onslaught of notifications.

Screens lit up in every corner of his safehouse-smartphones, laptops, news feeds. Headlines spun violently, one after another, a digital tsunami:

"Corporate Espionage Exposed: The Luther-Barnett Conspiracy?"

"Dual Identities Uncovered: Who is James Barnett?"

"Global Networks at Risk: Confidential Documents Leaked Online."

James' hands trembled slightly as he scrolled through screenshots of tweets, blogs, and viral videos.

"It's all over," he muttered, disbelief in his tone.

Georgia, watching from the corner, didn't try to comfort him. She knew the stakes.

"This isn't just destabilizing your reputation," she said, voice low. "It's destabilizing everything. Financial markets, corporate alliances, even your family connections."

Elena leaned closer to her monitors, scanning viral threads and cross-referencing leaked documents.

"The leak is comprehensive. Everything-personal, corporate, operational-has been uploaded to multiple platforms. Anonymous sources claim it came from your network... but it's too polished. This wasn't accidental."

James clenched his fists.

"So it's him. Dominic-or David."

"Both," Georgia said grimly. "And the world is watching."

From the livestream feeds, James saw public commentators dissecting old board meetings, corporate email threads, and even childhood photographs. Every fragment of his life-manipulated or real-was being debated publicly.

"The storm has already started," Elena said.

The first wave of consequences hit immediately.

Stock prices of Barnett Global plummeted. Board members resigned under pressure. Investors called emergency meetings. Competitors launched hostile acquisitions.

James' phone rang continuously, yet he ignored it, focusing on the live map of digital activity. Red dots blinked furiously-signals of breaches, bots, fake social media accounts, and deepfake videos being distributed.

"It's not just the press," Elena warned. "It's a coordinated disinformation attack. Every narrative we try to control is being hijacked in real-time."

Georgia's eyes narrowed at a headline flashing on her tablet:

"Luther's Second Identity Linked to International Espionage."

"He's using David's intel network to manipulate perception," she said.

James' hands tightened around the armrest of his chair.

"So even if we prove the truth... it won't matter. Dominic will already have shaped the story."

A new notification appeared-private messages leaking to trusted contacts. Friends, mentors, even family members were receiving falsified versions of the truth.

"They're rewriting history," Georgia said quietly. "Every memory, every record... they're spinning it."

Suddenly, a call came through encrypted lines. James answered, heart racing.

A distorted voice spoke:

"Your credibility is gone. You're not who you think you are. And anyone standing with you... is next."

The line went dead.

Elena swore under her breath.

"They're threatening your allies now."

"We can't retreat," James said, jaw tight. "We have to strike back. But carefully."

As chaos erupted online, James and Georgia pieced together the evidence.

The leaks weren't just designed to ruin James-they were strategic, destabilizing his entire network to create vulnerabilities for Dominic and David to exploit.

Elena displayed a live feed of social media analysis.

"Accounts are coming from multiple continents. Bots, proxies... but the core network points back to David's tech infrastructure."

James' chest tightened.

"He's using the very system I trusted to monitor him... against me."

Georgia leaned over, pointing at a particular cluster of accounts.

"Look here. These aren't just leaks. They're guided narratives. Each one is targeting a specific ally-legal, financial, personal. They're isolating you, James."

James rubbed his forehead.

"It's a chessboard. Every move we make, every reaction... he anticipates it."

Then the safehouse alarm blared. External sensors detected multiple intrusions-physical this time.

"They've come for the drive," Elena said sharply. "The USB with the evidence."

James glanced at Georgia, urgency in his eyes.

"We can't let them take it. If they have the drive... everything is public, unfiltered."

Suddenly, a shadow passed by the window.

A figure paused, watching.

James froze.

Georgia whispered:

"It's him. David-or Dominic... maybe both."

The wind picked up outside, rattling the panes, like the world itself was aware of the storm.

A final message pinged on James' tablet:

"Expose me... and the consequences won't be limited to you. Decide wisely."

James swallowed hard, his hands shaking.

The screens around them reflected chaos. Tweets, alerts, flashing news-everything spiraling out of control.

And beyond the walls of the safehouse, a new threat loomed: someone was coming for them, with all the power of the global network behind them.

The door to the safehouse began to rattle violently.

A figure stepped into the light, tall, calm, and unmistakable.

James and Georgia froze.

"You should have chosen faster," the voice said coldly.

The last thing Georgia saw before the lights flickered out: a hand reaching for the USB drive-the one that held every secret, every lie, every leverage point David and Dominic had meticulously planned.

The media storm outside raged on, unchecked.

And inside the safehouse, they realized: the world's eyes weren't the only ones watching.
