Chapter 145

Chapter 145 – An Explosive Revelation

James Barnett's palms were sweaty as he stepped into the abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of the city. The air smelled of damp concrete and rusted metal-a sharp contrast to the sterile corporate boardrooms he had spent his life navigating.

Dominic Reyes stood in the center, arms crossed, his silhouette partially lit by the pale glow of a single overhead lamp. The resemblance between the twins was uncanny, yet James could see the years of bitterness and cunning etched into Dominic's face.

"James," Dominic began, his voice low, almost venomous, "you've lived a comfortable lie. Every advantage, every opportunity... handed to you."

James frowned. "I don't understand. What are you talking about?"

Dominic stepped closer, his eyes cold and piercing. "Our parents sold me. You were supposed to be dead, remember? They made sure you thrived while I... was discarded. But now, you reap the benefits of their deception."

James felt the room tilt. Memories he had long buried-the hospital, the adoption papers, the blank gaps in his childhood-suddenly collided with reality. "You're saying... everything I've had, everything I've built, is because of them? Because of what they did to you?"

Dominic's expression hardened. "Yes. You've been living my life while I struggled to survive. And now, you're in my way."

James swallowed hard. The weight of the revelation settled like a stone in his chest. For the first time in decades, he questioned his identity-not just legally, but morally.

Dominic produced a worn folder from his coat pocket and tossed it onto the table between them. Photographs, adoption documents, and letters spilled across the steel surface.

"These are the records," Dominic said. "Proof that you benefited from my loss. The family kept me hidden, James. They told me I was worthless, while they set you up for success. Every promotion, every opportunity... was built on the foundation of what they stole from me."

James's eyes scanned the papers, each document a dagger to his pride. Childhood photos of himself in lavish homes, letters from mentors, boarding school records... and then, a crumpled hospital receipt for Dominic, marked "transferred" to an unknown party.

"Why now?" James whispered. "Why are you telling me this now?"

Dominic leaned forward, voice rising. "Because the game isn't over. I've been patient, watching, waiting for the moment when I could confront you. And now... now it's time for justice."

James felt a surge of anger and guilt. He had always thought he was living his own life, carving his own path. Yet the truth hit harder than any betrayal-his existence, in a way, had been built on someone else's loss.

Dominic's shadow seemed to grow larger as he continued. "You've benefited from our parents' sins. And now, you must choose: relinquish the life they gave you... or fight for it-and risk everything."

The room fell silent, save for the echo of dripping water from a pipe somewhere in the shadows. James's mind raced. Dominic wasn't just angry-he was planning something. And if James didn't act, the consequences could be catastrophic: personal ruin, corporate collapse, and perhaps even danger to those he loved.

James took a deep breath. "Dominic... I can't change the past. But we don't have to destroy each other. There's a way to set things right-without bloodshed."

Dominic's laugh was bitter. "You've always been the clever one. But clever won't save you from what's coming. The world doesn't care about fairness, James. It only cares about who controls the power."

Before James could respond, the overhead light flickered violently, plunging the warehouse into near darkness. The sound of a gun cocking echoed sharply, and James realized they were not alone.

From the shadows, a figure stepped forward-masked, silent, and armed. James's pulse surged. Dominic smirked, unfazed, as if he had anticipated this intrusion.

"You see, brother," Dominic whispered, "this is bigger than us. And you're about to find out just how deep the deception runs."

The tension snapped like a live wire. James clutched the edge of the table, eyes darting between Dominic and the masked figure, knowing that every decision he made in the next few seconds could change his life forever-or end it.

The masked operative steps closer, revealing partial intelligence insignias-proof that James and Dominic are pawns in a far larger conspiracy than family betrayal.
