Healed by the Moon: Mate Rewritten Chapter 1

Alpha Marco and I were an ideal couple, meant for each other. Little did I know that he was deceiving me in the long run. Worse, the woman behind his infidelity was Kira, my stepsister.

I kept quiet because, after all, I was afraid of scandal. Each time they had intimate moments, I got more bruises, some unbearable. This was the curse of being mates—whenever one commits infidelity, the other feels the pain tenfold.

"I just wanted to die." I was surprised by the words that left my lips as I drove in a daze. My wolf whimpered within my mind, agreeing with my decision as she, too, yearned for the agony to end.

I gripped the steering wheel tightly as my sobs grew louder. The image on the screen of my phone felt seared into my mind. It was a photo where Marco and Kira locked in a passionate kiss.

The road blurred further as I pressed down on the accelerator. Ahead, a massive tree loomed, and my foot pressed harder.

'If we can't have peace in this life, then we'll find it in the next,' my wolf sobbed.

Just as the car was hurtling toward the tree, a voice echoed in my mind.

"Don't do that. You are not destined for this…"

My foot slammed on the brakes instinctively, tires screeching against the asphalt. The car swerved violently before jerking to a stop mere inches from the tree. My head slammed into the steering wheel with a sickening thud, and a sharp pain shot through my skull. Darkness crept at the edges of my vision, and I knew no more.

When I opened my eyes, I was greeted by the sterile white ceiling of the Pack's hospital. My hand instinctively went up to my head, only to find that there was no pain.

A nurse came in, followed by the Pack's doctor, Dr. Mayer. "How are you feeling, Luna Fiona? That was quite the accident."

"I'm fine," I said dully, sitting up. "The cut healed already, thanks to my wolf."

Dr. Mayer frowned but nodded. "Even so, you should take it easy."

"I need you to issue me a death certificate," I said, ignoring his advice.

He blinked, clearly taken aback. "A death certificate? Luna, that's not something we just hand out. Why would you—"

"Because I'm not coming back. Now, issue me a death certificate and don't tell anyone about it. Even to your Alpha. Understand?" I used my alpha aura to intimidate him into compliance. Dr. Mayer hesitated before finally nodding, "I'll do as you ask, Luna Fiona."

When I left the hospital, I hailed a cab and went directly to the Pack's Registry. And just like I thought, the chief looked as stunned as my doctor did when I handed him my death certificate.

"Luna Fiona, did you just say you want to be. dead?"

"Yes, Don." I nodded nonchalantly, smiling at the old man. "I've made up my mind, so reserve your words of advice." I glanced down at the pile of papers and took a peek at the computer monitor where my identity records were flashed. "Do it. Erase all my traces from this world!"

"As you wish, Luna Fiona," he said, finally placing my documents in the paper shredder, and at the same time, he clicked the button to permanently delete my digital footprint, but registering my death in the system.

"So when are you sending my new documents?" I asked him, my voice still in a commanding tone.

"I will send it in once they're done with it," he answered, eyes darting past mine while he continued clicking on the computer.

When all was done, I spun out of his office and ran into the nearest washroom. The tough mask I was wearing began to crack and peel away, revealing my miserable state of mind underneath. I watched myself in the mirror, tears streaming down my face as I tried to sort out things. But the more I controlled myself, the more my sobs wracked my body.

After wiping out the last remnants of evidence of my breakdown, I refreshed my makeup and adjusted my suit jacket. It was there that my eye caught my necklace, the one Marco had gifted me for our wedding day and my inauguration as Luna of the Emerald Pack.

The pendant was also an emerald, which he had bought through an auction in the city. I still remembered how he managed to fight off other alphas to win the bid. He had even harassed them so that they stopped bidding against him. The necklace had so much sentimental value, and when he placed it around my neck during the ceremony, our pack members, along with the alphas from the surrounding packs, admired me with awe. They said I was the luckiest Luna across the whole region to have such a devoted mate.

They said that our love story was more enchanting than Cinderella and Prince Charming. I was an omega who served the packhouse diligently. But during a mating ball, and at the same time I turned eighteen, my stepmother locked me in the filthy cellar, preventing me from attending the ball. The reason was for my stepsister to have a chance to win the heart of the newly crowned alpha.

However, for some unknown reason, Marco found me. I had expected him to reject me on the spot. The opposite happened as he scooped me up in his arms and declared that he had been searching for me all along.

From that day onward, he promised to treat me with love and respect because I deserved that. He promised me a future that was full of happiness and love.

That is all about the future he promised me.

I was so absorbed by my negative thoughts that I became aware that I was gripping the pendant very hard in my hand. It weighed around my neck, and I yanked it off. I didn't want to wear it anymore.
