Chapter 4

After the procedure, I ran into Clayton and Talia right at the hospital entrance.

"Is your stomach still bothering you?" Clayton asked Talia with genuine concern.

As soon as Talia saw me, fear filled her eyes. "Stay away, don't come near me!" she exclaimed.

"Adriana, I've lost the chance to be a mother. Please, stop hurting me," Talia sobbed, tears streaming down her face.

"Back off!" Clayton pushed me away, and I crashed against the door, pain searing through my abdomen.

I never imagined she could accuse me so falsely.

When Clayton and I were dating, Talia invited me to go shopping. Midway, she left to meet some friends. Unfortunately, she was attacked by thugs, leading to severe injuries and losing her uterus.

When she came to, her first words to Clayton were, "Adriana took me to that pub. If it weren't for her, I wouldn't have encountered those thugs."

No matter how much I defended myself, Clayton wouldn't believe me. He trusted Talia and blamed me for her ordeal.

"Azariah, make sure you check my availability before scheduling anything for Adriana," Clayton instructed Azariah Montgomery coldly.

"I never want Talia to run into Adriana again."

Startled, Azariah quickly replied, "Yes, sir."

At that moment, heavy rain started pouring down outside.

Just out of surgery, I shivered from the chill.

"Mr. Wheeler, Adriana just had a procedure, and it's raining cats and dogs. It's tough finding a cab. Could she ride with you?" Azariah ventured.

Hopeful, I looked at Clayton, searching for a hint of kindness.

But he held Talia close and said harshly, "Talia doesn’t want her around."

"Find your own way home. If you can't get a cab, then walk."

With that, he and Talia drove off.

The cold wind and rain lashed against me, freezing me to the core.
