Chapter 6

The doctor’s voice was grave, heavy with urgency. “We’re running out of time. Julian still needs more blood. His vitals are dropping fast.”

Isabelle’s face paled as she turned sharply to the nurse. “Then bring Vanessa back in here! She’s the only one who matches his blood type. I don’t care if she’s resting—bring her now!”

The nurse flinched. “Ma’am… we can’t. She’s… not here anymore.”

“What?” Isabelle snapped, eyes narrowing.

Dominic, who had been leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, turned toward them slowly, brows furrowing. “What do you mean she’s not here anymore?”

The nurse swallowed hard. “She’s been discharged.”

“Discharged?” Dominic stepped forward. “What do you mean by discharged? By who?”

“We… we don’t know, sir. It was early this morning. There’s a release form on file. Signed and processed. But the staff member who handled it isn’t on duty right now.”

Dominic’s voice rose with fury. “I am her husband! Her legal guardian. No one had any right to discharge her without my permission!”

Isabelle spun on her heel. “Find her. I don’t care what it takes. My son is bleeding out because of that woman and you let her walk out of this hospital like it’s nothing?!”

The doctor stepped between them, trying to calm the storm. “Mr. Blackwell, Ms. Isabelle, please. The boy is critical. We need a donor—now. If you can find someone, anyone, we’ll cover the costs—”

“I don’t care what it costs!” Dominic roared. “Offer a million—no, ten! I don’t care if they have to fly someone in from another country, just get that blood!”

The hospital fell into chaos. Calls were made, donors begged, bank records scanned. Dominic’s men scoured the city for any compatible match, but one by one, they returned empty-handed.

“There’s no match, sir. At least not one we can find in time.”

Then the butler entered, panting as if he had run all the way from the car park. “Sir… we found something in her hospital room.”

Dominic turned. “What is it?”

The butler handed over a small velvet pouch. Inside, a single ring—her wedding ring.

And beneath it… the crisp edges of official documents. Dominic pulled them out with trembling hands.

His eyes froze.

Divorce papers.

Already signed by her.

His name. His signature. Her escape.

“What the hell is this?” he breathed.

Isabelle peeked over his shoulder and let out a short laugh. “Well… you did sign it, remember? So why do you look so shocked?”

Dominic’s face went pale. “I—I didn’t know. I thought it was… something for the hospital. She said it was about the baby. She… tricked me.”

He staggered back into a chair, reading the papers again and again. “She divorced me? No. No, she wouldn’t.”

“Looks like she did,” Isabelle said with a shrug. “She’s finally out of your life.”

But Dominic wasn’t listening. He stared at the ring in his palm, his chest tightening. She’s gone… She left me.

Before he could process further, the butler rushed back in—this time, holding a tablet. His expression was grim. “Sir… you need to see this.”

The moment the screen lit up, Dominic knew something was wrong.

It was him—his voice, distorted but clear. Surveillance footage. Audio logs. A compilation of every dark secret he’d tried to bury.

The kidnapping. The hospital betrayal. The confession about the staged rescue. The cruel words about Isabelle being the only one he truly loved.

It was all there.

“Where did this come from?” Dominic growled.

“Everywhere,” the butler replied. “It’s gone viral, sir. Someone leaked it anonymously. Social media. News outlets. It’s spreading like wildfire.”

Isabelle looked horrified. “Turn it off. Now!”

The butler continued grimly, “Also… several of our investors have pulled out. And the board is calling an emergency meeting. They want a statement.”

Dominic stood frozen, the divorce papers still clutched in one hand, the wedding ring slipping through his fingers onto the cold tile.

“No…” he muttered. “She wouldn’t… she can’t leave me.”

But she had. And the world now knew what he had done.

Fueled by desperation, Dominic drove straight back to the hospital, storming into the administrative wing. He demanded CCTV footage, witness reports, staff records.

“Where is the footage of Vanessa leaving?” he barked. “Who helped her?! Who deleted the files?!”

But the IT staff only looked at him in confusion. “Sir, we… we checked the hallway cameras. There’s nothing. It’s like… she was never here at all.”

“What do you mean never here?” he shouted. “She was here! She was locked in this room—I put her here!”

The technician stepped back. “I’m sorry, sir. Every file related to her has been wiped clean. She’s not on any of the cameras. Not in the records.”

Dominic’s knees gave out slightly, his hand catching the edge of a table.

Gone. It was as if she had vanished.

His phone buzzed again—calls from angry investors, media outlets, and board members. But Dominic couldn’t answer any of them.

He could only stare at the ring on the floor.

At the blood on his hands.

And at the empty hallway.
