Chapter 1

I was recuperating at a maternity center, while my husband was upstairs enjoying VIP special services.

  The baby was crying heart-wrenchingly.

Unable to bear the sound, I pushed open the door and saw the caregiver, her shoulder half-exposed, sitting on my husband’s lap, begging for a hug. Beside them, the baby’s face was already red from crying.

“This is Miss Daisy here. You might not know, but childbirth is hardest on men; they’re the ones who truly need care,” the caregiver said with a teasing smile.

My husband sneered, “After giving birth, you look like a haggard wife. Can’t I find someone else to relax with? Besides, I’m the one paying for this maternity center.”

I picked up the baby, intending to rush to the hospital. At that moment, the baby was already struggling to breathe from crying too long.

But my husband grabbed my wrist, lifting my shirt and sneering, “Look at her stomach—it’s like orange peel, so disgusting.”

“The baby’s crying is just aerobic exercise; it’s better for his health. You don’t understand anything, so just get out of here.”

It wasn’t until the baby turned cold in my arms that I realized, with sorrow, that there was no going back with him.

I faintly heard the baby crying again. Unable to ignore it, I got out of bed to check, despite the deep cesarean scar on my stomach throbbing with pain.

Following the cries, I discovered they were coming from upstairs. I paused, as I had no idea the maternity center had a third floor—only the second floor was open to the public.

Stopping at a door, I clearly heard faint cries from inside, along with the caregiver’s breathy voice:

“Gently… Please, sir, the baby is listening.”

“He can’t hear us. He was crying just now, but he’s quiet now, probably asleep,” came the reply.

I froze, feeling a wave of shame. I never expected that in this maternity center, a place meant to care for new mothers, such vile transactions were happening.

But the voices sounded eerily familiar.

“Mr. David… You’ve held back for so long. Don’t worry… As long as your wife stays here, I’ll keep taking care of you…”

“You little temptress, your words make me itch with desire. I wish I could give that woman another cut… to make her leave later.”

My heart felt like it was bleeding as I recognized the voice—it was my husband, G. David!

I never thought, just a wall away, he was doing such things with another woman!

He had promised… He had promised…

Tears welled up, and I felt too weak to even knock on the door, only managing to cry out weakly,

“Open the door… Let me in!”

Inside, there were muffled curses and the sound of clothes being hastily put on. The door opened, revealing my caregiver, Gwen Gwe, her shoulder half-exposed and her face flushed.

My baby was lying on the floor, silent and motionless.
