He Moved His First Love Into My Villa Novel Cover

He Moved His First Love Into My Villa

Ten years of marriage, and Lucas believed my inheritance was his to hand out. On our anniversary, I walked into my seaside villa and found it rebuilt for his first love—my mother’s piano already sitting in her room, a home promised without me. So I sold it to Damon Cross, the estranged brother Lucas never wanted to mention. Lucas calls it revenge; Amelia calls it proof. Both are wrong. The sale is only the first thing I’m taking back.

Chapter 1

For our tenth anniversary, Lucas handed me a new key to the seaside villa I bought with my mother's inheritance. “I finally finished our home,” he said. When I arrived, a banner stretched across the terrace: WELCOME HOME, AMELIA. His first love was hosting a party in my house. My bedroom had become hers. My wedding photos were gone. My mother's piano had been moved into Amelia's study. Then she showed me her own key and said Lucas had promised she could stay as long as she needed. He told me I was overreacting because the villa sat empty anyway. “We're married, Sophie. Why are you still separating yours from mine?” I didn't argue. I opened the trust deed he had never bothered to read. The villa had never been ours. It was mine. Then I called his younger brother Damon and asked whether his old offer was still good.

"I finally finished renovating Seabrook Villa into our real home," Lucas had told me that morning, pressing a new brass key into my palm. "Go tonight. Let me surprise you."

By eight o'clock, I was standing on the front deck of the coastal house I had bought with my late mother's inheritance ten years earlier, staring at the surprise.

A silver banner stretched across the glass railing.

WELCOME HOME, AMELIA.

Music thudded through the floorboards. Cars lined the drive, and guests moved behind the glass doors with champagne in their hands.

The front door opened before I could use my key.

Amelia Warren, Lucas's first love, stood there in a cream silk dress with a wineglass in one hand and an identical brass key in the other.

"Sophie." Her smile widened. "You made it."

A caterer brushed past me carrying a tray of appetizers. "Excuse me, ma'am. Do you want me to take your coat to the guest room?"

Amelia opened her mouth, but a smaller voice answered first.

"This is my mom," my nine-year-old son, Henry, announced as he squeezed around Amelia. He stole a mini quiche from the tray and grinned at me. "She doesn't live here normally."

For a second, I could only hear the music.

I looked past him at the house I had purchased before our wedding with money my mother left in trust. Lucas knew the deed was mine.

Yet my son had just introduced me as a visitor.

"Henry, go find Grandma," Amelia said, patting his shoulder. Then she turned to me with the calm confidence of a hostess. "Come in. Everyone's out back. Lucas wanted tonight to feel like a fresh start."

I walked past her without taking off my coat.

The living room had changed. My sofa and framed photographs were gone, replaced by pale modular furniture and a marble bar cart.

I climbed the floating staircase.

"Sophie, wait." Amelia followed me. "You should really let Lucas explain."

I opened the master bedroom.

The blue walls I had painted were now white. My wardrobe and curtains were gone. Two garment bags labeled A.W. hung from a chrome rack.

I turned down the hall and pushed open the storage-room door.

Three cardboard boxes sat on the floor. My wedding photographs and my mother's framed sheet music had been packed inside the open one.

My hands went cold.

I crossed to the room at the far end of the hall.

My mother's black upright piano had been shoved against one wall of what was now an office. Legal files and framed photographs of Amelia covered the lid.

I moved the nearest frame and found a fresh scratch across the piano's polished wood.

"The renovation team said Lucas wanted me to have a place where I could breathe," Amelia said from the doorway. "My divorce is final, but the press still camps outside my building. Lucas thought this would be safer."

"You put your files on my mother's piano."

She gave me a practiced look of sympathy. "Lucas never said it was sentimental."

"He knows no one touches it without asking me."

"Then I'm sure he forgot." She took a sip of wine. "He's been under a lot of pressure managing my legal team."

Heavy footsteps sounded on the stairs.

Lucas appeared in the doorway with his tie loose and his phone still in his hand. One look at my face, and he reached for my elbow.

"Not here," he muttered.

I pulled away, but he was already guiding me toward the terrace. He slid the glass door shut behind us, muting the party.

"Don't make a scene," he said. "She's staying temporarily."

"You moved my mother's piano to make room for your ex-girlfriend's divorce papers."

"We'll move it back later. Seabrook has been sitting empty for months. We live in the city now. Letting someone use a vacant house is not a betrayal."

"You gave her a key to my house on our tenth wedding anniversary."

His jaw tightened. "If I told you beforehand, you would have made it complicated. You always start talking about boundaries."

"I bought this house before we married," I said. "I paid cash while your startup was drowning."

"We've been married ten years," he shot back. "Are you seriously still separating yours from mine?"

The terrace door slid open.

My mother-in-law, Eleanor, stepped outside carrying a plate of cheese and crackers. "Lucas is right. Don't humiliate a newly divorced woman because you're feeling territorial. Amelia has been through enough."

I looked at her. "Would you let me hand Lucas's inherited shares to an old boyfriend because he was going through a difficult time?"

Eleanor's mouth tightened.

Before she could answer, Henry burst onto the terrace.

"Mom! Dad said I can have the big room with the balcony." He pointed excitedly toward the guest wing. "I get to stay here with Aunt Amelia every weekend. She said we can get a telescope."

The excitement on his face hurt more than Lucas's excuses.

I looked at my husband. He did not meet my eyes.

That was enough.

I did not scream. I did not throw the brass key at him. I walked downstairs, retrieved my purse, and left while the party continued behind me.

From my car, I called a moving company.

"I need a truck at Seabrook Villa tomorrow," I told the dispatcher. "One upright piano and three boxes of personal belongings."

Then I opened the secure folder containing my trust documents. Seabrook Villa was still titled solely in my name and had never been transferred into the marriage.

Lucas had renovated it without permission and promised access he did not own.

I scrolled through my contacts and stopped on a number I had ignored for three years.

Damon Cross answered on the second ring.

"Well," Lucas's older brother said, his voice rough with amusement. "I was starting to think you deleted me."

"Your broker made an offer on Seabrook a few years ago."

The amusement vanished. "Is this about Lucas?"

"No. It's about my house. Is the offer still good?"

A pause.

"Are you selling, Sophie, or are you trying to scare my brother?"

I looked through the windshield at the glowing villa, at Amelia's welcome banner lifting in the ocean wind.

"I'm selling. Market price. Standard contract. No favors and no family conditions."

"Send me the title report," Damon said. "If it's clean, I'll have my team send terms tonight."

Nine minutes later, an email arrived with proof of funds and an expedited cash offer, subject to title review and inspection.

I read every page.

Then I signed the offer acceptance.

My attorney sent Lucas a formal notice because he was occupying and arranging use of the property.

Three seconds after the delivery confirmation appeared, my phone lit up with my husband's name.

I watched it ring once.

Twice.

Then the villa's front door flew open, and Lucas came running toward my car.
