Chapter 2

Gwen’s Pov

Jack didn't return that night and I didn't stop crying. I tossed around on the bed as the pain from the surgery of losing my baby and my womb clashed into me.

I desperately wished I could die right now. But I knew if I did, my son’s death would not be avenged.

No, I would remain strong and pay them all for what they did to me.

By morning, I had stopped crying and my heart had become numb. I lay frozen staring up at the ceiling as the doctor came to take my vitals.

“How do you feel?” the doctor asked me.

“Can I go now?” I queried.

The doctor was surprised as he quickly discharged me. I called a random lawyer I had found online.

“I’d like to file for a divorce,” I stated.

“I’ll send you the form to fill in and you'll get the official paperwork in three days,” the lawyer informed me.

After I hung up, the doctor showed up again with my driver.

“Mrs. Velcro, your husband asked the driver to bring you home. He's preparing your favorites,” the doctor said, smiling.

I wanted to rip out his teeth and ask him why he removed my womb without my consent but I knew the man was most likely threatened.

I forced out a smile, “Thank you.”

Then I left the hospital with the driver. When I arrived back at the mansion I've lived with Jack for two years, I stumbled upon an unexpected scene.

There, lounging on the couch was Cara dressed in a beautiful red dress that looked expensive. Her small baby bump was showing and my mother-in-law was doting on her.

My heart squeezed painfully as I realized she was pregnant for my husband and now she was in my house.

Cara caught my eye and spoke immediately, “Thank you for the kind offer, Mrs. Velcro, but I can't live here. I don't want to make Jack’s wife uncomfortable.”

My mother-in-law snapped immediately, “That orphaned bitch?! She has no say in this family. I don't know why my son is still married to her when he ought to throw her barren ass out.”

Her words were like acid but having heard what I heard yesterday they just felt like ice water.

I stared at them and then went upstairs. But I had barely made it halfway when someone grabbed my hair.

“Ow!” I exclaimed, whirling around, my scalp on fire.

“You stupid girl!” my mother-in-law snarled and slapped me so hard, I tasted blood.

“What do you want?” I glared at her, my eyes shining with hatred.

“Can’t you greet? Are you so shameless and rude that you have no respect? No wonder you were kidnapped and made to watch your child die!” the woman spat.

I glared at her, the tears threatening to spill at her words.

“Well, ask your son, he was there. I'm sure he knows all about it!” I snapped.

“Why, you —” She raised her hand to slap me again when Jack’s voice interrupted her.

“That’s enough, Mom, leave my wife alone!” Jack’s voice came from the kitchen.

He stepped outside, wearing an apron as he glared at his mother.

“How are you feeling, Gwen?” he asked me, trying to kiss me.

I pushed him away, repulsed by his touch. Once upon a time I would have wanted nothing more than to melt in his arms but not anymore.

His mother has never liked me. Mostly because I was an orphan who didn't have any big company or wealth to offer their family.

She had said I was only fit to be a breeder but even that seemed impossible now because of her son and no one would know that but blame me!

“Gwen, apologize to my mother and Cara. Why didn't you greet them when you got back home?” Jack asked.

I scoffed, “I didn't do anything wrong so I’m not apologizing. What are they doing here?”

“Is that how she talks to you?” his mother thundered.

“Oh, I have to leave. I don't want to cause problems between you both,” Cara said in a pitiful voice.

“Daddy, why is that bad woman yelling?” a tiny voice suddenly asked across the kitchen.

I looked across the kitchen and I saw the boy. He was a replica of Jack, a chip off the old block. He was about two years old, the same time when I had gotten married to Jack.

“Who… what is going on here, Jack?” I asked him.

And he looked me dead in the eyes and lied without a second thought.

“My brother is dead, Cara is his widow and David is his child. They have to move in with us because Cara is pregnant and can't stay alone,” Jack answered.

I stared at him, he was very creative with his lies.

“Why is he calling you daddy?” I queried.

Jack shrugged, “He likes it. I'm not going to tell him to stop because it will make him unhappy.”

I nodded just as he presented a steaming bowl of hot seafood.

“I made you your favorite,” he smiled.

I smiled bitterly, two years with him and he didn't know I was allergic to seafood.

As the steam wafted through my nose, my stomach rumbled and I heaved throwing up on the floor.

“Oh my gosh, Gwen, you should have just asked me to leave. Why are you throwing up over me and my son?” Cara said, sobbing.

I wiped my mouth and glared at her, “You’re far from me. How did it touch you?”

But Jack suddenly grabbed my arm roughly as he forced me to my knees.

“Apologize to them this instant or I’ll make you eat your vomit!” he threatened.
