Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Lea's POV

“Stop the car, Rebecca!”

I shouted, leaning forward, my hand reaching for the steering wheel.

But Rebecca only laughed, her eyes fixed on the road with a wild glint.

"Don't act brave, Lea. You think you can stop me now?"

The car sped violently, devouring the road ahead. Wind whipped my face through the slightly open window, carrying the scent of metal—and something darker, like a bad omen.

“Rebecca, this is insane! Stop! You’ll kill us both!” I cried, panicking, trying to wrest control of the wheel.

But Rebecca suddenly raised her phone and tapped the screen. A video call.

Her expression changed instantly—full of fake panic and crocodile tears.

“Sean... help me! Lea trapped me! She forced me to drive a car with failed brakes!”

I froze. Too shocked by her performance to respond in time.

On the screen, Sean’s face appeared. Tense. His eyes widened. “Where are you now?!”

“She wants revenge… she’s not in her right mind… she said me and our baby must die! Please, Sean…”

I tried to cut in.

“She’s lying, Sean! This is all her plan!” But it was too late—Rebecca had ended the call. She turned to me with a smug smile.

“Game on,” she whispered.

Rebecca sent our location with a single tap. One signal to the man who once loved me.

“You’re absolutely…” I was lost for words to describe her madness.

“I won’t let anyone take anything from me, Lea!” she screamed. “Today… is your death day.”

“Destiny never chose you, Rebecca. You’ve always been my shadow—a cheap woman Sean picked up out of pity!”

“Shut your mouth!”

Suddenly, Rebecca’s hand clamped around my neck, while her other hand still gripped the wheel.

The car jerked violently. The tires screeched on the asphalt.

I gasped, struggling to breathe as I clawed at her hand—panic rising like bile.

The vehicle swerved uncontrollably, snaking across the road. Horns blared around us.

I lunged at the steering wheel, yanking it left with all my strength.

Rebecca screamed, releasing her grip on my neck, then tried to shove me away.

We wrestled in the tight space, our bodies colliding in a frenzy.

“Rebecca, stop! This isn’t just about us anymore!”

But it was too late.

CRASH!

The car slammed into a utility pole at full speed. The world spun. Glass shattered.

My body was thrown against the dashboard. Pain exploded in my head. My vision blurred. Smoke poured from the hood.

My ears rang.

Faintly, I heard a voice…

“Lea?! Rebecca!”

Sean.

He had arrived.

He opened the driver’s side door, quickly pulling Rebecca out. “Baby, are you okay?! What about our child?!”

Rebecca winced. “I’m hurt, Sean... my stomach...”

My eyes met his. Sean looked at me—briefly. Only briefly.

Blood dripped down my temple. “Sean... help me…”

But he turned away. Without hesitation, he lifted Rebecca and rushed off.

Two bodyguards followed—but not one of them came near me. They glanced at me for a moment, then disappeared with him.

Leaving me behind... in a smoking, blackened car.

It felt cold. Not from the weather... but from the truth.

They really left me.

With the last bit of strength, I kicked the barely-hinged door open. I dragged myself out, gasping for air. My knees buckled. But I had to get away.

A few steps away, I collapsed onto the grass—and the car exploded behind me.

If I had been seconds slower... I’d be dead.

Rebecca truly meant to kill me.

I held back my tears. The wound on my forehead throbbed, but the pain in my heart... was something no doctor could ever stitch up.

I staggered along the quiet road, limping.

I couldn’t go back. I couldn’t get caught again. Not like this.

I was no one now. No name, no power. Just a woman named Lea… fighting to stay alive.

I didn’t know how far I walked until I reached the highway. I raised my hand—begging for help. But car after car passed me. No one stopped.

Maybe they were scared of my bloodied face.

Until finally, a black car slowed and stopped. A man in a suit stepped out, eyes sharp and cautious.

“Please... take me to the airport...”

He hesitated. But another man inside—probably his superior—gave a silent nod. Without a word, the driver opened the door for me.

I gave a weak nod. “Thank you…”

The car sped toward the airport. When we arrived, I ran—though my legs barely moved. I sprinted through the terminal hallway, barely making it onto the plane before the doors closed.

I sat down. Took a deep breath.

Safe.

For now.

My phone lit up. One message.

From Sean:

[Where are you? Don’t think you can run after committing that kind of crime!]

My hand trembled.

I opened the phone case, pulled out the ID card, and tossed it into the nearest trash bin. Then slid in a new one. A new number. A new identity.

I stared out the window as the city lights faded below.

And I whispered to myself:

Goodbye, Sean.
