Chapter 3

“Noble, don’t be deceived by her. She’s a master at playing the victim and pretending to be innocent.

“At first, she claimed Myrna had someone bully her and I fell for her lies—I even wrongfully accused Myrna. Because of that, Myrna missed her chance to join the opera house she’d dreamed of her whole life and was forced to go abroad.

“But this woman used the chaos to crawl into my bed, got pregnant with Oliver and then forced me to take responsibility for everything.

“And now, she’s using her unborn child as a weapon again—trying to ruin Myrna’s life a second time. If she wants to fake her death in the sea, let her. No one is allowed to save her.”

As he said that, he carried Myrna, whose eyelashes were fluttering, into the lifeboat.

Oliver carefully held Myrna's hand and the three of them seemed like the closest family.

The blood was lost too quickly and everything went completely dark before my eyes.

The second before I lost consciousness, I vaguely thought of eighteen-year-old Franklin.

At that time, we were still in love.

He always put me first and would cry uncontrollably when I agreed to his confession.

He would sit in a hard seat for 17 hours just to see me because I said I missed him.

When I was craving for food, he would ride a bicycle for three hours just to buy my favorite snack.

But everything changed after his childhood sweetheart Myrna returned from abroad.

At that time, I was out of town preparing for a very important stage play audition.

When I came back, Franklin and Myrna were already inseparable.

He would leave me on a date to deliver food to Myrna because of a call from her and he would leave me alone to send Myrna home on my birthday.

I had quarreled with him countless times about these things and at first he would just rub his brows tiredly and explained, “Stop it, Jenna, there's really nothing going on between me and her."

Then he became more impatient as I argued, "She's been through enough, I just wanted to help her, Jenna. Why have you become so selfish and cold-blooded nowadays?!"

The conflicts accumulated and finally broke out when Myrna falsely accused me of drugging her before the opera competition.

I tried desperately to prove my innocence, but Franklin's gaze was colder than an icicle and it pierced my heart.

"Jenna, you really disappoint me!"

That glance almost became my nightmare for three years.

Since then, he completely cut off contact with me and turned to openly express his love to Myrna.

As a result, I suffered from severe depression and had to go abroad for treatment.

Unexpectedly, Myrna abandoned him, got engaged to a rich man and settled abroad.

Franklin was heartbroken and spent the whole night drunk in the bar.

I could not bear to see him continue to be depressed, so I stayed by his side and counseled him.

He finally came out of the shadows and regained his dream of becoming a lifeguard.

Because Myrna was afraid of water, even if she abandoned him, he wanted to protect her forever.

I had planned to say goodbye to him and never see him again.

But on the night of Myrna's wedding, Franklin got drunk and forced me.

After waking up, he said guiltily that he would be responsible for me and treat me well in the future.

I believed him, married him and gave birth to Oliver.

After marriage, he kept his promise and never contacted Myrna again.

I thought we would always be happy like this.

But when I was pregnant with my second child, Myrna divorced and returned from abroad.

Franklin started staying out all night and even took Oliver to spend the night at her house.

I went to question Franklin with my belly bulging, but he pointed at my nose and scolded me, "You must have drugged the wine in the first place, trying to use the child to tie me down. How can you be so disgusting? I have never seen a bitch as shameless as you, Jenna."

Oliver also pushed me hard and yelled, "Get out of here, bad woman! I want only Aunt Myrna to be my mother."
