He Chose My Fake Sister Over Me, Only to End Up a Penniless Beggar at My Feet Chapter 1

"Lawyer, please prepare two copies of the divorce agreement for me. I want to get a divorce."

"A divorce agreement requires both parties to sign it. Didn't your husband come? Marriage is an important matter in life. You must consider it carefully."

I chuckled to myself.

On our wedding anniversary, three months pregnant and with our five-year-old daughter in tow, I rushed to the place where my husband, Jordan Stanton, said he had prepared a surprise. Instead, we were taken hostage by kidnappers. When I called him, he said he was working overtime and didn't have time for such a boring anniversary celebration. After that, the calls went unanswered.

Thus, my daughter was stabbed to death right in front of me and I suffered a miscarriage.

While waiting for my daughter's cremation, scheduled for three days later, I saw my stepsister, Mallory Storm, post a video on her social media. In the video, Jordan was kissing her, her son was happily calling him "Dad," and their pet dog was wearing a birthday hat. It turned out my husband was with my stepsister, celebrating her dog's birthday.

The posting time was exactly when I was coerced by the kidnappers to make the call.

Just as I was about to answer the lawyer, my phone rang. It was a message from Mallory.

It was an audio recording of Jordan's voice. "Just endure it a little longer. How can Roxanne's baby bastard compare to our son? The company's inheritance rights all belong to our son."

There was also a text message. [Happy fifth anniversary. Do you like the big gift I gave you? Our child is already six years old, everyone thinks we're married and you're just the secret mistress.]

I snapped out of it and firmly told the lawyer, "I will make him sign. I have thought it through very clearly and will not regret it."

I then called his arch-rival, "Is the offer to join your company still valid? Let's bring down the Stantons together?"

The other party hesitated slightly. "You loved him for ten years. How could you bring yourself to hurt him?"

Thinking of my daughter's cold body lying in the crematorium, my heart ached. I coldly said, "He deserves to die."

——

The other party was a bit surprised but didn't ask further. "Alright, in two weeks, Jordan will be bidding against me for a piece of land. Come to my side then."

After hanging up the phone, I returned home with the divorce agreement and the cremation consent form.

The faint sound of heavy breathing echoed eerily in the silent house.

In the nursery I had carefully prepared for my baby, I saw Jordan and Mallory.

Those two naked bodies lay heavily on the crib. Their movements caused the bells on the crib to jingle.

Each sound struck my heart like a heavy blow.

Under Mallory was the pillow my daughter had personally selected. It was meant for the baby in my belly.

At the time, my daughter had innocently said, "The baby in Mom's belly must like pink, so I'll take blue. That way, both the baby and I will be Mom's babies!"

A wave of bitterness welled up in my heart, but I forced myself to suppress the pain and took out my phone to activate the camera function.

After recording a short clip, I saved it in a folder named "Divorce Evidence."

When Jordan came out fully dressed, I had already prepared a meal of four dishes and a soup on the dining table.

Upon seeing me, Jordan showed a hint of guilt and unease. "Roxanne, why are you back so early?"

I continued my actions without pause. "It's time to eat."

Jordan was about to say something else when Mallory's voice came from behind him.

"Roxanne, I'm really sorry. Jordan was clumsy and spilled water on my clothes while pouring me a drink, so I had to borrow your clothes to wear for now."

I looked at her indifferently. When I noticed that Mallory was wearing the light green pearl-embroidered dress that Jordan had given me when we got engaged, my gaze lingered for a moment.

There were many clothes in the wardrobe, including some new arrivals from two days ago that hadn't even had their tags removed, yet Mallory had chosen this particular one.

Her intentions were clear.

"Do as you please." I withdrew my gaze and turned to fetch the divorce agreement and cremation consent form.

After handing them to Jordan, I sat down to eat alone.

"What's this?" Jordan opened it curiously to take a look.

Mallory suddenly spoke up in a hurt tone, "Ouch! Roxanne, do you hate me? Why else would you hide a needle in my clothes?"

Jordan put down the documents and immediately ran to Mallory's side to look down at her.

Mallory took out the silver needle. When Jordan held it in his hand, he got furious on the spot. "Roxanne, why don't you take it out on me? Mallory is your sister. How could you bring yourself to do such a thing?"

I had loved Jordan for ten years and I treasured everything related to him, including this dress he gave me when we were engaged.

I had always kept it sealed away, even taking it out periodically to inspect it to prevent damage.

There was no silver needle.

Mallory sobbed softly, "Jordan, have I been cursed by something evil? I heard that some malicious people deliberately smear something on these sharp, tiny objects."

Jordan grew anxious and immediately picked up Mallory, carrying her away.

There was a time when I learned to cook for him and if I cut my finger, he would be worried for a long time. Now …

I smiled wryly as I looked at the scar on my wrist. It was a big scar from when I was kidnapped, but Jordan couldn't see it.

No.

He wasn't blind; he simply didn't care.

Just after finishing dinner and clearing the dishes, Jordan called and ordered, "Roxanne, come to the Public Hospital in the city center immediately. I'll give you five minutes."

The journey from here to the city center hospital takes ten minutes.

As soon as I arrived, Jordan appeared before me. His eyes filled with reproach. "Didn't I tell you to be here in five minutes?"

"Mallory was just diagnosed with heart disease and needs a blood transfusion. I remember you have a rare blood type."

"I can donate blood, but you have to sign first." I took out the two agreements again.

Jordan grew suspicious and was about to open them to read carefully when he suddenly heard Mallory's faint voice.

"Jordan, can I not get treated? I don't want my sister to be upset with you because of me."

Jordan was worried about Mallory's condition. So, he flipped directly to the last page, signed his name and then tossed the papers at me like trash.

"Go donate blood quickly."

I picked up the documents and turned around with a sense of relief.

Finally, I was free.

Ten years of liking him had come to an end.

After donating blood, my head was spinning and I was staggering as I walked. Just as I was about to leave, I ran into Jordan and Mallory again.

At this moment, Mallory was nestled in Jordan's arms with a rosy complexion, while I leaned against the wall with one hand and a deathly pale face.

A flash of concern crossed Jordan's eyes. Still, before he could step forward, Mallory exclaimed again, "Jordan, I remember my sister almost made it into the national team."

"How could losing a little blood make her so weak?"

Jordan furrowed his brows, the concern in his eyes fading. "Stop pretending. Mallory isn't feeling well. I'll take her home first. You find your own way back."
