Chapter 1

The moment finally arrived at my wedding with Sylas Evans, the part where the groom is supposed to kiss the bride. Instead, Sylas shoved me aside and kissed the bridesmaid standing behind me.

After the brazen display, he turned back to me nonchalantly and said, “Nellie, Autumn mentioned she'd never get married. She just wanted a taste of what a wedding feels like. This was something we agreed on before, so let’s carry on with the ceremony.”

I stood there, watching the whispers among the guests and seeing the smug glint in Autumn's eyes. I smiled and said, “How about you borrow the whole wedding? Might as well take over completely.”

Feigning hesitation, Sylas responded, “This doesn’t seem right, but if you insist, I won't object.”

I nodded, “I don’t mind. Just make sure you cover the wedding bill.” I added, “It’s not much, just over a million dollars.”

“What do you mean by that, Nellie?” Sylas's face changed dramatically.

I ignored him, took the microphone from the host, and said loudly, “Dear friends and family, I apologize for the spectacle today. The wedding will proceed, but I will not be the bride. Guests from my side, please head to the second floor, where we'll have a gathering, just a get-together among friends and family. Your gifts will be returned in full.”

I handed the mic back and stepped off the stage, heading toward my parents. They had never faced such humiliation in their lives, all because of their disappointing daughter, creating such an embarrassing scene.

“Mom, Dad, I’m sorry.”

My mom looked at me with tears in her eyes, while my dad calmly said, “You’re an adult now, making your own choices. Handle your matters first; we’ll take care of the guests.”

My eyes welled up with tears. “Mom, Dad, let’s go.”

“Nellie, you stop right there!” Sylas’s furious voice echoed behind me.

I gestured for my parents to lead the family upstairs while I turned to face the man I had loved for seven years. His gaze was icy. “Nellie Hunt, is this necessary? Making a scene over such a trivial matter in front of everyone.”

“Today was supposed to be our wedding day, and you’re worried about your pride?”

Did he really see this as trivial, making out with Autumn in front of so many guests, and I was the unreasonable one? How laughable.

I had hoped he would realize his mistake and apologize, but that was just wishful thinking. Seeing my silence, Autumn decided to play the innocent card.

“Nellie, don't be so petty. I’m just planning on never getting married. Sylas felt sorry for me, that’s why he agreed to let me have this experience at your wedding.”

Sylas’s friends started chiming in, ganging up on me as well.

“Yeah, Nellie, don’t make such a big deal out of it. If you love someone, you have to accept everything about them. You’ve always known Autumn is Sylas’s soulmate, and it was never an issue before.”

“Nellie, a man like Sylas is hard to find. Don’t let a moment of impulsiveness ruin your life.”

“Autumn decided to remain single because Sylas is marrying you. What harm does it do for her to experience the wedding?”

They stood there, decked out in designer clothes and watches bought with my money, spewing nonsense.

I remained silent, just watching them.

Sylas's parents began to panic. “Nellie, today’s supposed to be your big day. Don’t take it so seriously.”

“His father is right. A wedding is a big deal; you don’t just stop halfway. Listen to us, get through the ceremony. Couples fight, but everything will be fine soon.”

“Sylas, go apologize to Nellie.”

Sylas looked down at me with disdain. “Let’s see if she can really break up with me, never getting married.”

“Fine, then let’s break up.”
