Chapter 4

"She’s gone out? That old hag didn’t notice anything off?"

"Relax, I’ve been lying to her for ages. You should’ve seen the pathetic look on her face, treating Theo like he’s really her own kid."

"Babe, let’s not waste time talking about her. I miss you like crazy. Tell me where we’re meeting. I can’t wait another second."

Stripped down to nothing but his boxers, Theron was practically panting after Celina like a dog in heat.

"You're clean tonight? Then I’ve got something wild planned for you…"

Hearing that second part from Celina shattered whatever defenses I had left.

My nails dug into my palms as I completely lost it. I was seconds away from storming back home and confronting Theron head-on.

Just then, a phone call snapped me out of my rage.

"Elena, your room’s ready. Ambervile Mansion, unit 803. You’re still not here? Are you messing with me?"

A crisp, light male voice came through the line. I glanced back at the screen showing that disgusting excuse of a man and that shameless woman.

Clenching my jaw, I forced myself to exit the surveillance feed and stepped into the car Theron had ordered.

As soon as I shut the door, the driver glanced at me through the rearview mirror.

"Ma’am, I think you got into the wrong car. This ride was booked by Mr. Theron for Miss Celina Lark."

I swallowed my anger and pulled up a screenshot of the trip confirmation. "I’m a friend of Mr. Ashvale. Here’s the booking info. If you don’t believe me, feel free to call him."

When I opened Theron’s contact on my phone, the driver visibly relaxed.

"So, when did Mr. Ashvale start booking rides for Miss Lark?"

"About five years ago. Mr. Ashvale hired me to be Miss Lark’s personal driver. He’s a great guy. He got me a job driving for the Thornevale Group too. I get double pay."

His words stunned me. So, to take care of Celina, Theron secretly hired a full-time driver right under my nose while I was still running the company as president.

"Does his wife know about this arrangement?"

The driver avoided my gaze and looked me up and down for a few seconds. "Aren’t you a friend of Mr. Ashvale’s? Then you must know all about his relationship with Miss Lark, right?"

I stared at him coldly, a smirk tugging at my lips, silently daring him to continue.

Suddenly, he slammed on the brakes. "You’re not Mr. Ashvale’s friend. Who are you? Please get out of the car."

With a faint laugh, I lifted my eyes and handed him a photo. "Since you’re a driver for the Thornevale Group, you should recognize this."

He took the photo of me at a press conference and studied it carefully.

Beads of sweat formed on his forehead. His voice trembled. "Mrs. Ashvale, I… I didn’t know about their relationship. I’m just the driver. Please, forgive me. I’ll resign right away if you want."

"Just tell me everything you know. If you’re honest, I’ll make sure you keep your job at the Thornevale Group until retirement."

And so, he told me everything.

Each word felt like a dull blade slicing slowly through my chest. My fingertips trembled from the ache building in my heart.

So, Celina had been living in the villa next door all along.

So, Theron’s business trips three days a week were really just excuses to be with her.

So, that vile man and his mistress had been carrying on their affair right under my nose for a full ten years.

How absurd. I had been with him for ten years and I was the fool left completely in the dark.

"Mrs. Ashvale, I swear I never meant to help them betray you. From the moment I accepted this job, I knew something was off. But Mr. Ashvale paid too well. I… I do have something that might help you."

He handed me a mobile hard drive. I wiped away my tears and said quietly, "Turn around."

The car stopped outside the villa. I looked up at the shadowy figures tangled together in the bedroom window, their bodies pressed close.

My fingers curled tightly into my palm, but I felt nothing. Not even the pain.
