Chapter 6

My phone had been off all day, and when I turned it on at night, countless missed calls and messages from Jeremy popped up.

"I know you want to go to Romland. I've already bought the tickets. I sent you a few route options and see which one you like, and we'll go as you want."

"Instagram post was from a truth or dare game I lost. They're all prominent figures in the business circle; I couldn't go back on my word in front of so many people."

"Emma, I'll give you one more day. You better show up in front of me immediately, or we're breaking up."

"We'll discuss the marriage when you get back. I promise you a luxurious wedding. I really need you."

Jeremy kept bombarding me with messages. He was always like this—when he needed you, he wanted you by his side immediately. When he didn't, he'd kick you away.

Being around such a person, every day felt like the end of the world.

I felt speechless. "I never thought about reconciling with you, but I've imagined many ways of revenge. I've already broken up with you. A good ex should be like they're dead."

As soon as I sent the message, Jeremy's call came through, "I'll pretend you're just angry. Stop making a scene, okay? Come back, and I'll make it up to you for your birthday. I'll take you to the most expensive restaurant, get the biggest cake, and we'll travel together, to Romland, to the highlands, anywhere you like."

See, he actually knew everything.

He just didn't want to put effort into me.

I smiled bitterly. "I don't need it. Jeremy, put away your hypocritical facade. All the deep feelings have been used up by you. You're only looking for me because of the new project in the development zone, and the two families need to marry."

There was silence on the other end, and I could imagine Jeremy's face when he was exposed.

He spoke with a threatening tone, exasperated, "Don't think of yourself as something special. You're just someone I've played with. Do you know our intimate videos are on my phone? If you don't want them online, you'd better behave."

I sneered, "If you're bored, I'll find you a prison cell."

I hung up the phone.

I hated being threatened the most.

Jagger, half-leaning against the wall, asked, "Jeremy?"

I sighed. "Yes."

Tears fell involuntarily. "How was I so blind to choose such a person? He's simply my black history, yet he still thinks he's right."

Jagger bent down, gently patting my back as he spoke, "I'll handle it."
