Chapter 2

When I came back with the water, I saw Sophia lying on the bed watching videos. Seeing me come in, she continued to pretend to sleep. I had no choice but to kneel beside the bed and beg her to tell me where Kelly was. She ignored me and turned over. I couldn't stand it anymore, so I took out my cell phone to call the police. Suddenly, she got up suddenly and slapped me. I covered my burning cheek, watching her smash my phone.

"You bitch, if you call the police, you will never see Kelly again."

I suppressed my emotions, looking at her with a wry smile.

"Sophia, what do you want? A grandson? As long as Kelly can come back, I will agree to it."

Hearing that, she glanced at me.

"It is your duty to give birth to a son. Besides, if you can give the house and car from your dowry to Devin's younger brother, I will consider it."

Hearing that, I gritted my teeth and agreed.

After she was discharged from the hospital and at her urging, I completed the transfer of the house and car in one week. After Devin knew that, he didn't say anything. But I could feel that he was incredulous.

I was very dissatisfied about his inaction. His mother was so blatant, yet he could still go to work as normal.

After that, I had to give birth to a son first, and then Sophia would tell me where Kelly was.

But she never demanded that her other son John Smith have to have a son.

She only explained,

"Because Devin is the eldest, he should take the responsibility of having a son. John is too young to be in hurry to have a son."

Too young? John was almost thirty years old.

Because of Kelly, I was absent-minded. But I still had to try for a son.

In order to make me give birth to a son, Sophia was always giving me something to drink.

But it was stimy and smelled bad.

"Don't hesitate. Just drink it quickly. This is a folk remedy I asked for. You don't know that it is very difficult to catch toads nowadays. Thanks to John that he went back to the countryside to bring it to you."

Toad?

Suddenly, my stomach churned. I felt so sick as to run to the bathroom and vomited.

She thought I was pregnant and came to give me a pregnancy test stick. But seeing that I wasn't pregnant, she immediately walked away unhappily.

"You're so useless. John's wife had three abortions in the past year. Try harder. There's some medicine left on the table. Don't waste it."

I held onto the toilet and wiped away my tears.

My nails dug into my skin.

It seemed that only pain could keep me going.

The desire to see Kelly gave me the courage to swallow the rest of the medicine with the broken bones.

In the days after that, it didn't really work, but instead caused me to have diarrhea for several days.

So Sophia gave another folk remedy to me. So mysterious.

During that period, I was really worried about Kelly, so I bought a hairpin, then asked Sophia to give it to Kelly and take a photo of Kelly wearing it. At least I could confirm she was safe. Otherwise, I would call the police.

After considering, Sophia promised to give me photos within three days. In the middle of the night, I was awakened by a fishy smell. Because Devin was away on a business trip, I had to go check it out myself. Then I found that Sophia's door was half open and there were voices inside.

"Is it fresh this time? It smells so bad. You and I are relatives. You can't fool me. Don't make Celina King get sick after drinking it. Be careful. Many people have abortions now. You use your connections to get some more placentas."
