Chapter 2

Maybe I remained silent for too long, which made Mark even more dissatisfied.

"If you don't want to help, then go back. Don't be an eyesore here."

Lily spoke up suddenly.

"Mark, you've wronged Daisy. Look, she's holding the registration form.

"It should be to help me register..."

Mark snatched the form from my hand without looking at the name.

He muttered, "It's useful for you to make an orthopedic appointment.

"Okay, now that you have nothing to do, then go back. I'm taking Lily to get an X-ray. You'll cause trouble if you follow along."

Having finished speaking, he hugged Lily and turned to leave. I felt an indescribable pain in my heart.

I couldn’t understand what was so special about Lily that made him like her so much.

I also wondered why three-year companionship and six-year secret love couldn't make him feel touched.

Even if my love was so deep and affectionate, he was still dissatisfied with it.

My passion for Mark finally dimmed at this time.

I shouted, raising my voice, "Mark, let's break up!"

Lily covered her chest and acted frightened. Yet, she still tried to sow discord between us.

"Daisy, why are you still in such a temper? You scared me, and you misunderstood Mark. Your aggressive attitude will make him embarrassed."

Mark looked annoyed.

"Daisy Wright, what are you crazy about? Why are you yelling? You scared Lily! Apologize now."

I turned around and walked out of the hospital, thinking I should say goodbye to him.

Also, I should say goodbye to me who once was stubborn and rebellious.

Upon returning home, I packed all my things and left the house where I and Mark had lived for three years.

Then, I moved back to my own house.

After a busy day, my knees started to hurt more and more.

In the end, I realized that I couldn't stand up.

After asking for leave from the performing arts troupe, I came to the hospital again.

Sitting on the bench in the hospital, I kept crying. Tears couldn't stop falling.

It turned out I would never be able to dance again.

All I could remember was the doctor's words of regret.

"You have a delayed injury. The meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament of your left knee joint are torn at the same time.

"It will affect your walking in the future. You can go for a disability assessment.

"Besides, you have some mild post-traumatic stress syndrome. You need some psychological counseling at the psychiatric department."

The doctor said I needed to be hospitalized and family members' company.

However, I didn't dare tell my grandparents because they were old.

Thinking about it twice, I took out my phone to call Joe Steven.

He was two years younger than me, but I needed to be polite to him.

It was because he was my grandfather's last disciple.

It was said that he was from Capitalton. He was attracted by puppet shows while traveling here with his parents.

From then on, he would be sent to my home to study with my grandfather every winter and summer vacation.

We used to have fights at a young age.

Before Joe entered the room, I heard his impatient voice.

"Miss, you really know how to cause trouble. I'm so busy that I can't leave."

But as soon as he came in and saw me wearing a hospital gown, he was stunned.

Suddenly, I felt aggrieved, and my tears couldn't stop flowing.

Mark left me behind. My leg was injured, and I couldn’t perform the puppet show I was rehearsing on stage.

It seemed like I had lost everything since Lily came back.

"What's going on?" Joe asked me with concern.

I told him what happened in the past two days.

Joe came over and pulled me into his chest.

"Don't cry! Everyone can see that Mark doesn't love you, and you're the only one lying to yourself.

"Silly girl, you should have woken up from your dream long ago."

During the days I was in the hospital, Mark never contacted me.

On the day I was discharged from the hospital, I received a notice.

The puppet show parts in the performing arts troupe's latest stage drama were deleted, and the leading actor was replaced by Lily.

While receiving the message, I laughed at myself.

Immediately afterwards, Mark called.

"Daisy, let Lily play the role this time. You will have another chance in the future."

My knuckles turned white as I held the phone tightly. I tried to stay calm and asked, "Why?"

"Why? Because Lily just returned to our country. She needs a performance opportunity, and you don't need it."

"What if I say I don't agree?"

"I'm not discussing with you but informing you. Also, you will be in charge of guiding Lily in her dance on stage."

I finally couldn't help it and questioned.

"Mark, why should I guide her? She is your true love, not mine, and I told you that we broke up!"
