Chapter 1

After I graduated, I kept hitting walls while job hunting, but my boyfriend landed a position at a big company with ease.

My boyfriend of two years voluntarily gave me his salary to comfort me.

When I finally found a job, he worried about my long commute and bought me a car.

All my friends envied me for having such a thoughtful boyfriend.

In order to buy our first house, I secretly transferred my own salary into his account as well.

A year later, we decided to get married. He held my hand and said excitedly, “I know you don’t have much saved. I don’t want a single cent from you. All I want is your whole heart.”

I was deeply moved by how considerate he was.

However, on the day of our engagement, he pulled out photos of me with more than 40 different men and accused me of cheating.

I stared at them. I had never even seen these people before.

Then, he showed me his card’s transaction history, filled with charges from a place called Sunshine Club.

“I trusted you with my card, and you used my money to fool around! I’m not marrying you. Give me back my car and the 800,000 dollars you’ve burned through.”

I calmly took out the card he had given me before and sneered, “Sure. Let’s settle the accounts properly.”

The moment my attorney revealed the true financial statements, he was completely stunned.

“Estelle, congratulations! You're so blessed to have a boyfriend as perfect as Jenson!”

“Seriously! He’s good-looking, has a solid job, and is head‑over‑heels for you. We’re honestly so jealous!”

My college roommates surrounded me at our engagement banquet, pouring me drink after drink.

I smiled, but a warm, bittersweet feeling welled up inside me.

They were right. Getting engaged to Jenson Middleton was the best thing that had ever happened to me.

A year ago, I was fresh out of college and full of hope. However, every résumé I sent out sank without a word. At that time, I sank deeper and deeper into discouragement in my tiny rental apartment.

Jenson, my boyfriend, was working as a department supervisor at a major company. He stood firmly by my side. He never complained, not even once. Instead, he even slipped his card into my hand.

“Estelle, don’t worry, and don’t pressure yourself. Take this card. The PIN is your birthday. A working woman needs to have money on her, or she’ll lose her confidence.”

I was so moved that tears welled up in my eyes on the spot.

I swore that I would treat him twice as well once I found a job.

Later, I finally landed a position at a start-up, but it was far from our place. My commute took four hours round-trip every day.

Jenson felt so sorry for me that he took me straight to a dealership and bought a car in full.

“Just drive to work from now on. Don’t waste your time on the road.” He pressed the car keys into my hand, smiling gently and warmly.

Everyone around us said I was blessed that I had found the perfect boyfriend. It was almost unreal.

After several rounds of drinks, the atmosphere was lively and loud.

Suddenly, Jenson stood up and picked up the microphone.

“Thank you all for coming to Estelle’s and my engagement party. Before the ceremony officially begins, I have a personal matter I’d like everyone here to witness.”

I thought he was about to make some grand romantic declaration. I smiled at him, my eyes filled with affection.

Then, his words took a sharp turn, and his voice dropped into an icy edge.

“Estelle, we’ve been together for three years. I’ve never wronged you. When you didn’t have a job, I supported you. When your commute was long, I bought you a car. I gave you everything, yet what did you give me in return?”

I was stunned.

The large screen behind him switched from our sweet engagement photos to a series of shocking images. The photos showed a woman who looked almost exactly like me, in shadowy private rooms, entangled with more than 40 different men. She acted intimately with each one.
