He Threw Garbage at My Place, I Made His Home a Garbage Yard

A mountain of trash, taller than a man, sealed my front door completely.

The officers had planned to speak with me in person, but now they couldn’t even get close.

They had no choice but to call me again.

“Ms. Harris, we’re at your door now. We believe you.”

I sent them the surveillance footage. “Here’s the full recording of their actions. It should be clear enough.”

On the line, the officers fell silent for several seconds, clearly shaken by what they’d seen.

“Ms. Harris, the evidence is undeniable. We’ll confront the other party immediately. Their behavior seriously violates city ordinances. They’ll be ordered to clean this up and fined.”

I thanked them through the door and listened as they used a loudspeaker to summon the Millers.

Ten minutes later, I heard movement outside.

Karen’s shrill voice rang out:

“Officers! We were just trying to do a good deed! She lives alone, her doorway piled high with garbage, so we helped her clean it up. Is that wrong?”

I nearly laughed in disbelief.

The officers weren’t amused either. “You call this cleaning? You blocked her door with the entire building’s trash! She couldn’t even get out!”

They played the video I’d sent—on speaker. From inside, I could hear the Millers’ voices mocking me: “Bitch.” “Let her act smug now.” “She deserves to rot in the stink.”

Suddenly, it was silent outside.

After a pause, Robert stammered, “O-officers, it was just a joke… we didn’t think it through…”

“A joke? This is harassment and a serious disruption of public order! You will apologize and clean this up right now. Otherwise, each of you faces a $5,000 fine and five days in county jail.”

At the mention of fines and jail, Karen’s tone softened instantly, sobbing, “We’ll clean it! We’ll do it right now! Jason, apologize to your auntie!”

Jason mumbled something under his breath.

“Louder!” one officer barked. “Say it like you mean it!”

Jason finally shouted, “Sorry!”

Through the door, I replied coldly, “I don’t accept half-hearted apologies. And you will clean this yourselves—no janitors, no hired help.”

The officers agreed, standing guard as the Millers began their work.

Through the peephole, I watched them in masks, scrambling to collect the trash. Karen gagged and rolled her eyes, Robert dripped sweat, and Jason cried as the stench overwhelmed him.

Two hours later, the doorway was finally cleared.

Before leaving, the officers warned them again: “Do this one more time and you’ll be taken straight to the station.”

The Millers promised repeatedly, then slunk back into their apartment.

I thought the matter was finally settled.

But the very next night, I caught that familiar reek again—

and sensed someone sneaking at my door.

Still on edge from last time, I opened it a crack—

and found Robert standing there with a trash bag in hand.

It was the same bag I had just placed outside, waiting to take down later.

Robert smiled awkwardly. “Sorry. We went too far last time. Our apology was rushed and insincere. My wife sent me to apologize again.”
