Chapter 8

Lisa had always been intimidated by her stern brother, so when he offered, she responded without thinking, "Okay."

At Clearwater Bay, the courier had been waiting downstairs for a while. Lisa used the key to open the package. As she peeled back the tape and saw the customized invitations inside, her heart tightened.

It was an invitation she had designed herself, featuring cute, cartoonish portraits of her and Adam, with a bright red "Joy" character glaring up at her, its significance painfully clear.

"Please throw it away for me."

The courier looked confused. "Isn’t this an important item?"

Not long ago, the contents of the box would have been incredibly important to Lisa. She had cherished everything related to Adam, treating them as treasures she’d guard with her life.

For five years, she had poured all her love and energy into him. And now, in an instant, he had become the subject of mockery.

"No, just take 20 dollars for the shipping cost. Please take care of it for me," Lisa said flatly.

The courier immediately softened. "No problem."

After taking care of the delivery, Lisa turned to leave. That’s when she spotted Adam standing beneath the magnolia tree.

Dressed in a suit and leather shoes, he still looked every bit as handsome as before, though there were dark circles under his eyes, hinting at his exhaustion. He stood there holding his briefcase, staring at Lisa with an unreadable expression.

Without any warmth, he asked, "What are you doing here?"

"The wedding items I ordered were delivered here since they couldn’t be intercepted in time. Don’t worry, I’ve already taken care of it," Lisa said, determined not to engage further. She turned to walk away.

"Stop."

Adam quickly stepped forward and grabbed her arm. "Since you’ve come all the way here, I might as well give you something too, so you won’t feel like you’ve wasted a trip."

"Atty. Jackson, I don’t think there’s anything more to discuss between us," Lisa replied, shaking off his grip. Her eyes, filled with sorrow, met his. "If I’m guilty, the police will arrest me. It’s not your job to take action."

Adam’s expression darkened, his tone dripping with contempt. "Lisa, you overestimate yourself. I told you—I’ll make you pay for the harm you’ve caused, tenfold."

With that, he grabbed a document from his briefcase and threw it toward her face.

The bold, glaring word "Indictment" on the cover of the document hurt Lisa’s eyes like a physical blow.

Her once-proud fiancé, a lawyer known for his victories, was now using the law as a weapon against her.

"What is this supposed to mean?" Lisa’s shoulders trembled with fury, her voice trembling with disbelief.

There was a determination to fight to the end in Adam's expression: "Don't think that the Hale family can hide the truth because they have a few dirty money. I swear to personally send you to prison and avenge Emilie, even at the risk of my future and reputation." !”

Emilie, who lost one leg, lived in agony with tears every day. How could this woman get away with it?

Lisa's heart has long since died for this man, and now she can no longer feel the pain.

But anger can.

She slapped Adam with her backhand and cursed angrily: "Adam, you are crazy. What kind of ecstasy soup did Emilie fill you with? You are a lawyer, and you need evidence in everything!"

"Surveillance is irrefutable evidence!"

"I'm not the one monitoring the people in there!"

"It's you! It's you who are jealous of Emilie, your mind is vicious, and it's your love that turns you into hatred! What you lost was just a marriage, but what Emilie lost was a leg, and her entire life!"
